KATHERMAN Thanksgiving Day Wedding The wedding vows of Miss Joan Yvonne Miller and Ralph Garland Katherman were spoken Thursday, November 27 at 4 p.m. in the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Rt. 2, Hertford. The Reverend Charles Duling performed the double ring ceremony in a candle light setting of palms, white mums, glads, pom-poms and bronze mums. Wedding music was presented by Mrs. Eddie Brown and featured "Whither Thou Goest," "The Wedding Prayer," and "One Hand, One Heart" by soloist, Mr. Edward Jordan. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Miller of Route 2, Hertford. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Katherman of Norfolk, Virginia. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin, with empire bodice and high neckline overlaid with Chantilly lace; the long sleeves were made of Chantilly lace with cuffs of nylon rucking. The attached chapel length train was accented with Chantilly lace and had a deep border of nylon rucking. Her bouffant illusion veil edged in lace fell from a Camelot cap and was fingertip length. She carried a white Bible covered in lace and white roses. Mrs. Carol H, Miller of Warrenton, N.C, sister-in-law of the bride was matron of honor. Miss Paula Ann Miller, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Harolyn Joy Katherman, sister of the groom, and Miss Rose Marie Whitehurst. They wore gowns of Jade green satin peau de soir and carried long stemmed Talisman roses. Best man was the groom's father. Ushers were Michael B. Miller of Warrenton, N.C. and Paul Miller of Hertford, brothers of the bride. Mistress of ceremony was Mrs. Wade E. Morgan of Route 2, Hertford. Guests were registered by Mrs. Loucttc M. Winslow, cousin of the bride of Tyner, N.C. Mother of the bride wore a dress of deep coral, matching accessories and a white orchid corsage. Mother of the groom wore a peach and tan printed dress with tan ac cessories and a white orchidxrorsage. The couple and their parents received guests in the vestibule of the church following the ceremony, after which the couple left for a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia. They will make their home at 3317. A Lyons Avenue, Norfolk, Virgina. A Rehearsal Party was given by Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Katherman, Wednesday night at the Community Building in Winfall for approximately 150 guests. A floating miscellaneous shower honored the bride on Oct. 18 at the Winfall Community Building. Hostesses were friends and relatives. Mrs. Tildon Whitehurst and Miss Rose Marie Whitehurst entertained the bride, her attendants, and the mothers at a dinner party at Whistling Pine Restaurant on Nov. 15. Mrs. Johnny Webb and several friends honored the couple with a party at her home. The bride was presented a gift of linen. " . Mrs. Wade Morgan and Mrs. Bryan Miller, Jr., were hostess for a lingerie shower on Nov. 16 at the home of Mrs. Miller. Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Mc Closkey and sons of Norfolk, Va. and Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward McCloskey of Goshen, Ind. were guests of Mrs. R.B.Thach last Sunday. Brown of Greenville, and James Lee Barrett, son of Rev. and Mrs. Troy J. Barrett of Durham, were united in marriage with the Rev. Ralph G. Messick and the Rev. Troy J. Barrett, father of the groom, officiating at the double ring ceremony in a candlelight setting of autumn flowers. Mr. David Winstead, organist, rendered a pro gram of music. Mr. Bob Forbes, soloist, sang "Wed ding Song" with guitar ac compaiment and "My Cup Runneth Over." Miss Cathy Wilson, soloist, sang "Whither Thou Goest" and as the couple knelt for the benediction, "Wedding Prayer". The wedding was directed by Mrs. Ralph C. Tucker. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smart presided at the guest register. Miss Marjorie Paramore presented the guests with scroll remem brances of the wedding. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore a formal length gown of white satapeau over taffeta designed with a portrait neckline outlined in a floral venise lace beaded with pearls. A double ruffle of the satapeau, edged in a tiny daisy patterned lace, com plimented the neckline. A tucked sash of the gown fabric appliqued in the bead ed lace accentuated the modified empire waistline. The long, fitted sleeves were trimmed in appliques of lace, with flared cuffs bordered in lace. The full A line skirt, appliqued in lace, extended to a chapel length train with a deep ruffle flounce trimmed in lace edg ing the hemline. She wore a formal length illusion man tilla edged in lace to compli ment her gown and carried a full cascading bouquet of white Tea roses, Stephanois and baby's breath, accented by Sonya Roses, English Ivy, and white bridal ribbon. Miss Nancy Kathryn Brown, sister of the bride, of Greenville, was maid of honor. She wore a formal length shrimp knit gown designed with a scooped neckline trimmed in white daisy lace. The bodice of the sleeveless gown featured appliques of daisies centered with shrimp beads. The waistline of the full flared, skirt was encircled with the daisy lace. The gown was complimented by a short bolero jacket with long fitted sleeves with flared cuffs and attached hood. The entire jacket was trimmed in the white venise daisy lace. She carried a cascading bouquet of Sonya Roses, bronze pom poms and baby's breath, tapered off with fall oak leaves and ribbon. ' Bridesmaids were Miss Linda Ann Fleming, of Greenville, Miss Sue Nash Nicholson, of Hejnderson, Miss Teresa Lynn Bolick, of Winston-Salem, and Miss Mary Lewis Woolen, " of Charlotte. They wore gowns and carried flowers similar to the honor attendant. Miss Karen Edwards, of Greenville, served as flower girl. She wore a formal length gown of shrimp knit Come See! Come Save! Brown, sister-in-law of the bride, Miss Sally Boyette, Miss Anna Carson, all of Greenville, Mrs. J. Richard White, of. Belvidere, and Miss Ellen Presnell, of Greensboro. They carried a single yellow rose embedd ed in baby's breath and foliage, tied with yellow satin streamers. Th,e bridegroom's brother, Robert T. Barrett, of Durham, was his best man. Ushers were William H. Brown, John I. Brown, David Gregory Brown, brothers of the bride, all of Greenville, William R. Bar rett, brother of the groom, of Durham, David Smoak, cousin of, the groom, of Greensboro, and Larry Bailey, of Gatesville. The mother of the bride chose a floor length gown of blue knit with a matching lace jacket and matching accessories. The groom's mother wore a floor length dress of orchid chiffon with chantilly lace and matching accessories. Both wore cor-, sages of white Bridal roses. At the end of the ceremony, they were remembered with a single yellow long stemm ed carnation. For going away, the bride chose a blue pants suit with matching accessories. She wore her mother's corsage. After a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple will reside in Hertford. 1 The bride is a graduate of J.H. Rose High School, Greenville, and the Univer sity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and from' where she received her B.S. degree in Business Ad ministration. She is present ly employed by Peoples Bank & Trust Co., Hertford. The bridegroom, a graduate of Cary High , School and North Carolina ; State University where he received his B.S. degree in Recreation and Parks Ad ministration, is employed by the Roanoke-Chowan Mental Health Service, .
