Letters From Our Editor's Mailbag Turn Off TV Violence TO THE EDITOR: People keep asking what can be done about the rapid in crease in crime. Part of the trouble lies with television. The programs for the most part are filled with smut and violence. Programs that are on television now, from the soap operas on, could not be there without a significant number of those watching it hoping things will go "just a little fur" ther." Our young people are fully aware of television's ques tionable content. They know their parents are watching it. By the time the average child is 14, he has witnessed 11,000 T.V. murders. i-. Our country would be better off if more people would just "turn it off." , BOBBY SIMPSON Newton Grove, N.C.
