Price $329.95 Letters From Our Editors Mailbag Internal Security TO THE EDITOR: The first session of the 94th Congress convened Jan. 14 and immediately approved the recommendation of its Democratic Caucus to abolish the House Committee on In ternal Security and transfer its staff, files and jurisdiction to the Judiciary Committee. It should be noted that many members voted for termination, thinking (like many of us) that the function of the former Committee would be carried out by the Judiciary Committee. Nearly one year has pass ed and the Committee has not held one internal security related hearing. As you know, Internal and National Security matters have been under attack throughout the year. The F.B.I, and C.I.A. have borne the brunt of this verbal and written abuse. , I now understand the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on In ternal Security is on the brink of abolishment because of a lack of adequate funding. , It is obvious to me and hopefully to all freedom-loving Americans, that something has to be done to change the direction our nation is heading. A recent F.B.I, report estimates there are over 15,000 terrorists organized in 21 separate groups in the United States. From January 1972 through October of this year some 7,000 bombing incidents, both actual and attemptedoccurred in our United States. Many of these incidents were either claimed by or other wise attributed to such groups. It has been reported that a concerted effort will be made by certain revolutionary groups to disrupt our nation's Bicentennial celebration in 1976. Needless to say, we can't sit idly by and watch our nation deteriorate from within, therefore; I urge every member of The American Legion and all other concerned citizens, to inform their Senators and Representatives that the obligation to maintain a viable internal security mechanism rests in large measure with the Congress of the United States. We have already seen the abolition of the Subversive Activities Control Board, the At torney General's List, and the Internal Security Division of the Justice Department. Time is of the essence. Please con tact your Member of Congress and seek their commitment to support the Legion's philosophy. THOMAS M. APPLETON, COMMANDER HERTFORD, N.C. Enrolls At UMTC WASECA Bruce C. Glatkowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Rosenberg of Hertford, Horticulture major joined the student body at the University of Minnesota Technical College, Waseca during the current Winter Quarter of study. Winter Quarter, 1976 enrollment at the University of Minnesota, Waseca is up from comparable figures of Winter Quarter, 1975. The Winter Quarter, 1976 enrollment is over 830 compared to 599 a year ago. The increase in enrollment at UMW from Fall Quarter (705) to Winter Quarter follows a pattern that has developed with this technical college for agriculture. Most colleges decrease in enrollment from Fall to Winter Quarter. "Because we are an agriculturally-related college in which students can start and ' end any quarter, UMW provides a good opportunity to enroll in a fulltime college program in Winter Quarter," Jim Hesch, supervisor of Admissions and Records, said this week. Part of this pattern appears to develop because many students stay at home to help with the farm harvest in the fall and enroll Winter Quarter. "We are very pleased with the response we are getting from students to our programs," Provost E.C. Frederick said. "The student interest indicates to us that our programs are on target with the interests of young people today and also on target with the needs of IIS JLJ, Readers : the agricultural industry in the mid-management, semi professional manpower area."
