Obituary CARROLL VINCENT WARD Carroll Vincent Ward, 81, of Rt. 1, Belvidere, died Sunday morning at 5:20 in the Chowan Hospital follow ing a lingering illness. A native of Perquimans Coun ty, he was a son of the late John Hardy and Mrs. Laura Copeland Ward. He was a retired farmer, a member of Whiteville Grove Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and was an army veteran of World War I. ' Surviving' are his widow, Mrs. Hannah Rountree Ward; a son, Jphn R. Ward of Hertford; a daughter, Mrs. Agnes W. Brabble of Rt. 1, Edenton; a brother, Ervin Ward of Albequer que, New Mexico; seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 in the chapel of the Swindell Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph Knight. Soft music was played by the organist, Mrs. Preston Morgan. Grain Yield Down In 'Up' Year North Carolina produc ers of small grain will be out this year to reverse the production pattern of last season. The yields of wheat, barley and oats were all down in the 1974-75 season. At the same time, the nation as a whole pro duced larger crops than in the previous year and set a record in wheat. The Tar Heel wheat crop was down 6 per cent to 9.3 million bushels, while the U.S. crop was a record 1,651 million bush els. North Carolina produced 4.3 million bushels of oats and 2 J million bushels of barley, slightly less than in the previous year in each case. The U.S. oat crop was up 7 per cent to 657 million bushels, and the barley crop was 26 per cent greater at 383 mil lion bushels. The pall was made of white chrysanthemums and red carnations.
