To Receive M.D. Degree CHAPEL HILL - Joseph R. Haskett Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ray Haskett of Carolina Avenue, Hertford, will be among the 123 students at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill to receive the doctor of medicine (M.D.) degree, in commencement exercises here Sunday, May 9. Graduation exercises for the Medical School will be held at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall. Dr. Christopher C. Ford ham, dean of the School of Medicine, will preside over the program honoring the 1975 M.D. degree can didates. Delivering the keynote address will be Dr. William E. Bakewell, UNC-CH professor of psychiatry and chairman of Academy Students Visit Canada . Chowan Academy spon sored a trip to Canada on April 4th for the benefit of its high school students. The tour covered several points of interest in Quebec City and Old Quebec in cluding the fortifications, Plains of Abraham, Palace Royal, the narrow streets, Laval "University Campus, the elegant residential sec tions of Sillery. St. Foy, Anne de Beaupre, ' Mont morency Falls, and several old French homes. The students also traveled to Montreal and took in over 200 points of interest in cluding a . tour of Notre Dame Church, shopping and financial districts, Old Mon treal, French' Quarters, McGill University and West mount. Haskett is a graduate of Perquimans County High School and received an A.B. degree in Chemistry in 1971 from UNC-CH. He is mar ried to the former Sharman Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert B. Taylor, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Hert ford. They have two children, Joanna Gwen age six and J.R. Haskett III age seven' months. Prior to entering the Medical. School, Haskett worked in the Technical D e partment at Weyerhaeuser Company in Plymouth, N.C. as a project chemist. He will begin a residency in Internal Medicine on July 1 at Fitz simons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colo. Washington D.C.; New York City, N.Y.; Hartford, Conn.; and Boston, Mass. The group had a great time and have already started trying to decide where to go on next year's trip.
