Layden spent Friday in Norfolk, Va. shopping. , The Belvidere Horae : makers Club had their an nual family dinner Tuesday evening, March 22 at the Community Building. A buf- ; fet type meal was served to ' the assembled guests. The tables were covered with v multicolored cloths and spr- mg flowers formed the , centerpiece for each table. Mr. George Winslow of Hertford asked the blessing. The committee for the even ing consisted of Mrs. W.T. Riddick, Mrs. Elton D. Layden, Mrs. Oliver Winslow and Mrs. Brenton Winslow. At the conslusion of the dinner Mrs. Willard Copeland had the devotion which was seasonal and inspiring. Mr. and Mrs. Gil Under wood of Hertford and Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Ham mond of Edenton were special guests. Mr. Ham- , mond who is with the N.C. - Agricultural Extension Ser vice gave a very interesting talk on Estate Planning. Mrs. C.T. Rogerson Jr., president, presented Mrs. Flora Hurdle a silver tray . fittingly engraved com merating her 35 years as a member of the club. Zion Church - senior and youth choirs honored McClenney with a musical program for the many services rendered by him during the past years as organist. - : Rev. Jacob Downing of Atlantic City, N.J. will be guest speaker Sunday at New Bethel Baptist Church. The junior choir and ushers will serve during the ser vice. It is sponsored by the Missionary of the church. Rev. Downing is the son of Mrs. Daisy Downing. Anthony Downing' has returned to school in Charlotte, N,C. after spen ding severaPdays at home with his family. . ' Mr. and Mrs. James E. Brickhouse, Jr. of Edenton, . 8 from active membership ; but was voted an honorary member. Mrs. Reuben Knopf Sr. had charge of the recreation for the evening and Mrs. George Winslow was the' winner of the prize. An en joyable evening was had by all. Mrs. Sylvia Copeland is home from a two weeks visit with her sister, Miss Lucy Lamb, of Media, Pa. While there Mrs. Copeland at tended the 150th Annual Philadelphia Flower Show at the Philadelphia Civic Center. The display con sisted of three acres and every type of flower im aginable was in evidence. The day before, Mrs. Copeland attended, 40,000 visitors viewed the beauty of the flowers. The show ran for eight days with thousands present each day. The Belvidere Community Building was the scene Friday evening of a Floating Miscellaneous Shower given in honor of Miss Dora Chap pell, bride-elect of Mr. Everrett Parks. A centerpiece of spring flowers and lighted candles decorated the refreshment table. Green and yellow was the color scheme. Mrs. Larue Winslow cut and served the cake and Mrs. Melvin Chappell presided at the punch bowl. The bride-to-be received many beautiful gifts. The wedding will take place Sun day, April 3, at the Warwick Baptist Church. The many friends of the Henry Perrys of Bryn Mawr, Pa. will be happy to know that Mrs. Perry is recovering from a serious illness. She was able to leave her bed last week and walk to a chair, the first time she has been able to do this in months. Mr. Perry who was confined to his bed with an injured leg is able to be up and about. Mr. Tommy Layden and N.C. visited with Mr. and Mrs. Levi Brothers on Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Rountree of Portsmouth; Va. were v guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Talley on Sunday. Mrs. Mamie Pollard and John Blount of Portsmouth, V a. spent the weekend at Southern Shores. Mr. and Mrs. Garnie Banks and daughter of Elizabeth City were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Billups on Sunday. They also attended morning service at New Bethel Bap tist Church. Mr. Layden is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James O. Layden Jr. of Belvidere. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Winslow have returned to their home after a two weeks visit with their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Winslow of Wilm ington, N.C. f Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hen dricks of Chesapeake, Va. visited Mrs. Hendricks mother, Mrs. Nora Winslow, and attended the Layden Harrell wedding on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Layden and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ward spent Sun day in Williamsburg, Va. touring and visiting the Pottery. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Winslow and family of Wilmington, N.C. arrived Friday to visit his parents and to attend the wedding of his nephew, Tommy Layden to Miss Sherry Harrell. Mr. Charles E. Layden is recovering nicely and is able to take short walks after being a patient in the Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Va. His daughter, Brenda, visited him over the weekend. She is a student at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, N.C. Mr. and Mrs. James Malco of Point Harbor spent last Sunday with Mrs. Malco's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Riddick. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Winslow and family have moved into their new home. It is located near his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Winslow's home. Stanley Nixon, the State Baptist Royal Am bassadors Charter for the newly reorganized Boys' organization. Rev. Nixon in turn presented the charter to Tim Perry, president of the pioneers and crusaders of Bethel Boys Am bassadors. The boys received their badges and registration cards from Mr. Marq Gray, counselor. Thursday night (tonight) the boys will be hosted at a Father-Son Banquet given by the Brotherhood of the church. Mrs. Elaine Phillips entertained the Scrabble Four club recently at her home with a delicious lun cheon in the setting of her enclosed sun porch. Later the group adjourned to the family room where they en joyed a session of scrabble by a glowing fire place. Mrs. Ethel White was high scorer with two games. Winning a game each were Mrs. Loraine Simpson and Mrs. Freda Nelson. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sheldon have returned home after spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Bush at Woodstock, Va. Mr. Sheldon carried a "Wagon Wheel Swing" which he had made and easily sold while on the trip. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Har rington, Jr. of Snug Harbor spent last weekend in the Washington, D.C. area.
