Budget Session Held Tlw Perquimans Weekly, Hertford, N.C.. Thursday, April n, imPaot j Monday The Perquimans County Board r of Education met - Monday night in regular ses- iiion and to review and discuss the coming year's budget. In action taken, the board approved a budget amend ment in the amount of $7,000 transferring funds from maintenance to utilities. .The board also went on record expressing a will ingness to cooperate with other agencies in securing better recreational op portunities for the county's citizens. The 1977-78 school calen dar was approved. Superintendent Pat Har rell gave a brief report on a recent visit to Gladdsden, , Ala. he and William Byrum made to observe an educa- .tional program. Discussion was also held on the upcom ing community meetings to discuss the . question of reorganisation. The upcom ing ' occupational fair in Elisabeth City was dis cussed. And it was an nounced that a local school choral group will be per forming in Raleigh in Hay with additional details to be announced at a later date. Principals will be attend ing the May meetings of the board to review teacher evaluation and make recom mendations for the coming year. . ;-v Prior to adjourning, the body finalized plans to at tend the district meeting of the North Carolina School Boards Association in Sunbury. Court Convenes Judge Grafton Beaman presided at the brief session of Perquimans County District Court on Wednesday and heard the following cases: . :v Joshua CrandelL charged with assault and battery, received a 20 day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $25 and cost, was told to remain on good behavior, and not to violate any laws during the period of suspended sentence; Jimmie Roots was found guilty of larceny and was given a six months sentence suspended for three years, a fine of $150 and cost, was told to remain on good behavior, not to violate any laws of North Carolina dur ing the suspended sentence period, and remain off of the premises of Colonial Store for period of suspension; John Edward Nowell, charged with .assault and battery on a female, received a six months sentence suspended for four years, was taxed with cost of court, was ordered to pre sent himself to the Depart ment of Mental Health in Hertford within five days, comply with all terms, to keep; all appointraents,rnot to consume any alcoholic beverages for 12 months, not to violate any laws involving moral turpitude, particular ly not to assault Clouetta Nowell; Roger Edward Winslow and Michael Spivey were, both charged with affray,' and each defendant was given a ten day sentence suspended for one year, a fine of $15 and cost, and told to remain on good behavior. Appeals were noted in both cases and they were placed on ' the Superior Court Docket for trial; Ada Holley - was found guilty of larceny and received a six months sentence 'suspended for three years, with supervised probation for 12 months, a fine of $175 and cost, and told to stay off premises of Betty's Boutique; Allen Ray Jones, charged with driving with license revoked, was given a six months sentence suspended for three years, a fine of $200 and cost, and was told not to operate a motor vehicle un til relicensed to do so; Thoedore R. Roscoe was gound guilty of not having a driver's license, and was given a 60 day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $50 and cost, and was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina until relicensed to do so; Floyd 'Gene Etheridge was found guilty of reckless driving after drinking and received a line of $115 and cost; -; " Bruce Nadeau, charged with indecent exposure, was given a fine of $100 and cost, a sentence of 60 days suspended for two years, was told -not to violate any laws involving moral turpitide, and remain on good behavior.
