WAYNE WINSLC'.V ISED TRUCKS" 63C; Letters From Our II Editor's Mailba" 3 Deserves Mention TO THE EDITOR: . - Recently during Commencement Exercises at Per quimans County High School, a nice athletic award was presented, but no mention has been made of this in The Per quimans Weekly, so I'd like to call attention to this. Mr. Joe Towe Sr. and his sons, Joe Jr. and Cliff, gave a permanent award and trophy to the school for athletic good sportsmanship, in memory of Mr. .A. Wayne Hefren. Mr. Hefren has been dead several years now, but he was one of Hertford's outstanding citizens, and is still remembered by many for his great support of all athletics in the schools. No Perquimans County citizen ever gave more loyal support, generous time and money for sports in the schools. ' Mr. Hefren's daughters, Miss Marjorie Hefren and Mrs. S.S. (Jo) Hollingsworth, live in Maryland now, but they and all of us here who have loved and admired him want to thank the Towes for this lovely tribute and honor to him, so richly deserved. I do not know who received this first Good Sportsmanship trophy this year, but I hope that he, and more others in the future will treasure and value it for what it signifies. There are so many pictures in The Perquimans Weekly ot awards and trophies being given and received. I truly regret that this nice award was not recognized and the donors given credit for one's gesture in support of Per quimans County athletics. LOUISE CHALK 311 N. Church St. Hertford, N.C.
