Definite Loss
TO THE EDITOR:
: I can't recall ever writing a letter to a newspaper before,
however I felt compelled to do so at this time.
To Freda Nelson, who has chosen to move on, I'd just like
to say a word of appreciation for the interest, encourage
ment, and graciousness she has offered to all of us. I'm cer
tain we'll feel a loss in Freda's leaving, but feel sure that
other lives will be enriched also by her presence.

Chairman 's Thanks
TOTHE EDITOR:
First, I would like to thank everyone that helped or par
ticipated in the July 4th celebration. Special thanks go to
Gary Kennedy of the Chamber of Commerce and to Mayor
Bill Cox for their efforts in making the celebration a
success.
To the Hertford Fifes and Drums, Rev. Ken Spivey, and
Rev. Thomas Hoogerland, a special thank you for the parts
they played in our July 4th celebration. Without the par
ticipation and backing of such individuals and organizations
in our county, there is no way that one man or organization
could have sponsored an event such as the one just spon
sored by the Perquimans County Jaycees.
Once again, to everyone that helped make the July 4th
celebration a success, thank you.
PARKER NEWBERN
Chairman,

TO THE EDITOR:
I would like to thank everyone on behalf of the Per
quimans County Jaycees for their excellent cooperation
during the July 4th activities held in Perquimans County.
A special thanks to many of our Jaycettes and wives who
worked with us during the day.
I hope that in the coming year, we will be able to work
with our many friends at the Chamber of Commerce, Town
Office, and our County Officials for the betterment of Per
quimans County.
Thanks for letting us be a part of your July 4th Holiday.

Why you
should respect
Sunburn
Can half a million
Americans be wrong?
"Skin cancer from overex
posure to ultraviolet sun
rays is distressful, pain
ful, and expensive. More
protection from the aim,"
these victims warn.
Wrinkles and pre
maturely aged skin affect
thousands more who
routinely disregard the
sun's punishment. They,
too, have advice: "Avoid
repeated sunburn."
My advice is to condi
tion your skin gradually to
the sun's rays, day by day;
avoid direct sunlight
between 11 am and 2 pm,
and use an effective sun
screen lotion to help block
out ultraviolet sun rays.
Apply the lotion thickly
for extra protection, and
reapply after heavy sweat
ing or swimming. .

THE HONEVMOONERS - Lots of
laughs was the order of the day as these
two Fun Festival participants complete
an obstacle course in "The Honeymoon
Express." The event was patterned
after the TV show, "Anything Goes."
THE SKIES LIT UP -That's
the only way to
describe the breath-taking
fireworks display which
rounded out the July 4th
Celebration. From loud
booms, to all colors of the
rainbow, the fireworks
featured something for all
the many spectators who
viewed the elaborate
display from the ballpark.
An American flag of flicker
ing lights and final salute of
fireworks, with sound,
ended the day-long events.
