Mrs. Lucille Williams has returned home after surgery at Chowan Hospital. Frank A. Williams Jr. and Mrs. Betty Millan of Newport News were weekend guests of Mr. Williams' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams Sr. in Snug Harbor. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Long and daughter, Miss Ellen Long, attended the wedding of School Announces Test Students at Perquimans High School who are con sidering attending college after graduation will have five opportunities during the 1977-78 school year to use the ACT Assessment Program, a guidance oriented service that is used each year by students throughout the nation as part of their college and career planning. The first of five national test dates on which the ACT Assessment tests will be of fered is Saturday morning, Oct. 8. Junior or senior students planning to take the exams on that date must have registered by Sept. 12, it was announced by James S. Midgette, Guidance Counselor. He said the full 1977-78 schedule of national test dates (wit registration periods in entheses) is: Oct. 8 (Aug. 8-Sept. 12); Nov. 19 (Sept. 26-Oct. 21); Feb. 11 (Nov. 14-Jan 13.); April 1 (Feb. 6-March 3); Civic League Meets The monthly meeting of the Holiday Island Civic League was held Sept. 4 with Vice-Chairman Cecil Tim ms presiding. For the annual election, the following slate of new officers was proposed: Joe Segar for chairman; Jess Champion for vice chairman; Hazel Miles for treasurer; and Floyd Friesen for secretary. Nominations were then closed and the slate was elected by acclamation. Discussion was held on the status of the Holiday Island Rescue Squad. The ambulance must receive final certification by the end of September, it was pointed out, after installa tion of additonal equip ment. Long has returned to her home in Bethel after spending two weeks in Winston-Salem visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie T. Whitley and family. Mrs. Verona Cudd and son, Harold, of Kannapolis, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Stallings last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Har rington Jr. attended a covered dish supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. and June 17 (March 27 May 19). At area test centers on those dates it takes students about three hours to complete four stan dardized exams (covering subject areas of English, math, social studies, and natural sciences) that make up the Test Section. The ACT Assessment's other important section is a two-part questionnaire that is completed by students at home as part of the registration process. The test scores provide an assessment of general educational development and the questionnaire sec tion information focuses on academic and non academic accomplish ments and interest, an ticipated needs, as well as educational and career plans. The resulting test scores and extensive question naire information are used by students and their counselors and families to recruited, trained and cer tified for the squad. Treasurer Barbara Everett reported on the status of funds for the Civic League requesting that members contribute annual dues of S3 per family. Joe Segar gave a report on Hurricane Evacuation Planning in Perquimans County which is conducted under the auspices of the Red Cross. Howard Max well has been appointed as Manager of this program for Holiday Island. Chairman-elect Segar spoke, stressing the value of the Civic League in fostering improved com munications at Holiday Island. He invited all residents and guests to a fish fry at the camping sec tion picnic area on Oct. 1 from 1-5 p.m. in order to help Islanders get better acquainted.
