New Books The Lonely Furrowby Norah Lofts completes her trilogy o 15th century England. The Styx Complex by Russell Rhodes is a suspense novel involving the head of an international cosmetics empire and her hold over world leaders. Cameron's Landing by Anne Stuart is a romantic suspense novel dealing with murder in a shipping family. Trans-Siberian Express by Warren Adler js a tale of con spiracy set on the famous train when an American doctor is brought to Russia to save the life of a Russian leader. Rise and Fight Again by Charles Flood is a novel about four defeats suffered by the Americans in the Revolu tionary War on the way to victory. - The Best: Encore by Peter Passell continues the pattern of his first work with listing of the best pianos, poisons, ex ercises, car stereos, caviars, traveler's checks, and kit chen knives, etc. A Season in the Sun by Roger Kahn is an account of a summer spent watching and talking with teams, players and owners from the majors to the small college teams. The Werewolf Trace by John Gardner is a spy novel which examines the survival of Nazi cults into the present. 1 The Last Movementby Joan Aiken is a mystery story of murder on a Greek island resort where the rich come for rest and relaxation. Police Activities The Hertford Police Department released the following arrest, citations, and accidents for this week. ARREST John Edward Brown of 210 Covent Garden St., Hertford, was arrested by Officer J.R. Logan on a ( charge of Failure to appear ' in Court as directed by a citation. He was arrested Sept. 21, and was placed in " the Albemarle District Jail under a $200 bond. Willis Brice of Rt. 1, Box 690, Elizabeth City, was ar rested for being in an intox icated condition in a public place. The arrest was made in the Bus Station on Mon day, Sept. 26 at 6:15 p.m., arresting officer was J.C. Boyce. ' Kenny Felton of 110 King St. Hertford, -was arrested by Officer J.R. Logan on Sept. 21, at 4:10 p.m. on a warrant charging failure to comply with a court judg ment. Felton was released on his own recognizance. CITATIONS Michael Wayne Spivey of 132 Market St. Hertford, was charged by Officer J. R. Logan on Sept. 20, at 2:25 p.m. with being in an intox icated condition in a Public place. : Stanley Samuelson of Rt. 1, Box 876 Hertford, was charged by Officer J.R. Logan on Sept. 20 at 2:25 p.m. with being in an intox icated condition in a public place... Merrill Carlyle Lamb, of Rt. 1, Box 172, Edenton, was charged with failing to stop for a red light by Of ficer J.R. Logan on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6:10 p.m. Clarence Edward Brown of Rt. 2, Bpx 254-A, Hert ford, was charged with fail ing to stop for a red light by Officer J.R. Logan on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 10:40 ' p.m. Gary Billups of 415 King St., Hertford, was charged with improper passing and no operators license by Of ficer J.R. Logan on Thursday, Sept. 22. ACCIDENTS Frank Martin Grzesik of 501 Jessup St. Elizabeth Ci ty, was charged with following too close follow ing an accident on Church St. Extd. Thursday, Sept. 22. Officer R.L. Harvey, the investigating officer, reported that the Grzesik vehicle a 1972 Ambassador sustained approx. $500 damage when it struck the rear end of a 1972 truck operated by Joseph Eason. The Eason vehicle received approx. $300 damage. There were no injuries. Haywood Martin Sr. of 308 King St. was charged with a safe Movement violation following an acci dent on Church St. Thursday, Sept. 22 at 11:03 a.m. Chief Merritt reported that the martin vehicle a 1971 Chrysler was attempt ing to leave a parking place in front of the Court House and in doing so he side swiped a 1977 Ford Truck belonging to Lee White Chory, of Rt. 1, Box 1, Hert ford. There was approx. $100 damage to the Martin vehicle and approx. $10 damage to the Chory Vehicle. Areas Assigned . RALEIGH - Secretary of Transportation Thomas W. Bradshaw Jr. has an nounced the assignment of specific geographic areas for 17 members of the Board of Transportation as their prime responsibility for transportation issues. Si mpmhprs nf tho 91. member Board will con tinue to serve as "at-large" members, while Secretary Bradshaw serves as the Board's chairman. '- "While some of our Board members have specific geo graphic areas as their nrimo rocnnnaihilifv will continue to work as a team to provide the citizens tf North Carolina with the best possible transpor tation system," Bradshaw commented. Of interest to Albemarle area residents is the geographical areas of responsibility assigned to Board of Transportation members for Division 1, Marc Basnight of Manteo and T.G. Joyner of Garysburg. Basnight's, area will include Per quimans, Dare, Currituck, Pasquotank,, Camden, Gates and Chowan coun ties. Joyner's territory will include Bertie, Hertford, Hyde, Martin, Northamp ton, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. HclVCI!
