FREEDOM Sunday School Lesson ? in The News HEARING AND DOING Luke 6:43-49 The nature of the fruit which is borne by any tree is deter mined by the nature of the tree. Each tree produce* fruit of the same kind of itself ? a peach tree bears peaches, a fig tree bears figs, etc. Likewise, people reveal their true character in the fruit which they bear. Christ said: "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." And unregenerate heart is an evil tree which cannot produce anything except the evil works of the flesh. In some cases it may produce an imitation of good fruit, but it cannot pro duce the real thing. Even though one may pretend to be what he is not, if his heart is wicked, his words and his works are certain to be evil also. Every life brings forth some kind of fruit, and the fruit always reveals the condition of the heart. What the lips say and what the hands do are accurate manifestations of the condition of the heart. Just as the fruit reveals the kind of a tree, so the life of a person reveals whether or not he has been saved. Men are not saved by their works, but their works are certainly an evidence of their salvation or of the lack of it. The only way to have the right kind of an inward and an outward life is to have Christ dwelling in the heart. If your heart is God-fearing, Christ-loving, pure, clean, and dedicated, it will be obvious to all who observe your life and the Lord will be glorified thereby. Calling a person a Christian does not make him one any more than calling a thirteenth floor of a building the four teenth in an attempt to allay the fears of superstitious peo For Your Information* Dear friends, Prearrangement of funeral service is especially sensible where there are no close family members to pro perly assume the funeral respon sibilities. The concerned person may select his clergyman and funeral director in advance, decide details of burial and service, and place the ex pense funds in a trust for that purpose. Respectfully, CARD OF THANKS The family of Sara Mae Felton wishes to express their sincere gratitude and ap preciation to our many friends for their prayers and many acts of kindness shown during this time of need. One can prove that he is a Christian by what he is, by what he believes, by what he thinks, by what he says, by what he does, and by what he produces. The measure of one's Christian faith will be known by the character of his conduct and by the extent of his devotion. People may be thought of as being in one of three classes: those who advertise and deliver the goods, those who advertise but do not deliver the goods, and those who neither advertise nor deliver the goods. If Christ is truly your Lord, then obey Him and produce the fruits of a Christian. If you are going to bear Christian fruit then live in the spiritual environ ment of prayer, worship, and Bible study in order to bear fruit for your Lord. Christ taught that building a life is like building a house. He reminded each reader of this passage that he is a build der, that he has a choice of foundations, that the foundation will be tested, and that the building will either stand or fall depending on whether or not one has built his life in obe dience to the expressed will of Christ. Luke 8:19-21 Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus, along with her younger sons, the half-brothers of the Saviour, arrived on the scene, but they were not able to reach Him because of the immense crowd that had assembled. Thinking that in all likelihood He was on the verge of a breakdown because of overwork, they were very anxious to restrain Him from such strenuous activities and to take Him back to Nazareth with them, in the earnest hope that He might get some rest which He needed so much. Upon being told that the members of His family were in the area and seeking an audience with Him, without any thought or intention of being disrespectful to them, Christ declared that the members of His earthly family could not exercise any authority over Him any longer, but that He was going to do the perfect will of His Heavenly Father. Moreover, He announced that He had enlarged His family circle so as to include all who "hear the word of God, and do it." Our response to the teachings of Christ as recorded in the Word of God determines our happiness and our usefulness in life. ? Obituary ? MRS.
