Police Report I Merritt and Officer J.C. Boyce on Wednesday Oct. 2f , and charged with disorderly conduct and |l resisting arrest. He wa* M committed to the Albemarli District Jail by Magistrate B.T. Dail, Sr., until 6:34 a.m. Thursday and then released to his parent's custody. Joseph Mendel Jolly, Sr. of Church St., Hertford, was arrested by Officer J.C. Boyce on Thursday, Oct. 27 and charged with bigamy which is a felony in N.C. CITATIONS Carl Richaiti Owens of Rt. I, Box 983, Hertford was charged with exceeding a safe speed by Officer J.R. Logan on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 10:30 p.m. on Grubb St. Leon Clark Dudley of 1311 Ironleige Run, Virginia Beach, Va. was charged with improper passing by v Chief Marshall Merritt on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Church St and U.S. 17 Bypass. RAID Edward Holly, Jr. of 203 King St., Hertford, was ar rested for p?ssf ssion of in toxicating liquor for sale and possession of non-tax paid (bootleg) whiskey dur ing a raid on Laureasa Cafe. The Cafe, a local night spot located on King St. in Hertford, was raided by the Hertford Police Dept. shortly after mid night, Oct. 30. Chief Mar shall Merritt stated that the entire Department par ticipated in the raid. He said that a "fairly large amount" of illegal whiskey and beer wai seized by the Department during the operation. Holly was taken before Magistrate B.T. Dail Sr. who released him on his personal recognizance. BREAK-IN Sometime after midnight on Oct. 23, someone broke the glass out of the front door of Hoflers Grocery on Grubb St. Approximately 150.00 in change that was kept beneath the counter was stolen. Chief Merritt stated that the Department, is continuing its investiga , tion of the break-in. In The News Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Chappell of Charlotte visited relatives in the area last week. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Stallings of Hertford and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Wood of Elizabeth City spent last weekend on a trip to Asheville and other points of*interest in Western North Carolina. Dr. and Mrs. Jack Broughton, Jr. and family of Indiana, Pa. were weekend guests of Mrs. Johnny Broughton. Mrs. V.N. Darden is a pa tient in the Chowan Hospital.
