Children Learn As They Play The curriculum in the Hertford Methodist Pre Kindergarden School is an activity -centered program that provides experiences which develop concept and skills basic to future learn ing. Many are provided for the child to explore, examine and use a variety of materials. Children learn best from materials they self-select. The free play permits the child to break from the group, giving him a chance to explore at his own pace a variety of interests. Play fosters a spirit of coopera tion, sharing, and team work, also important at titudes for a child to develop early in life. The childrenfare involved in art activities every day. An art activity is a creative experience which requires original thinking, planning and doing. The child draws and paints his own world in his own way. It is different from the adult world, it is a young child's world. New Regulations Set New regulations on clams and crabs will become ef fective January 1, 1978, according to Joseph Smith, Chairman of the N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission. The Commission held a public hearing November 15 in Manteo. After receiv ing comments, the Com mission met the following day and enacted the following: __ 1. Clam gathering by methods other than hand tongs, hand rakes, or by hand will be done only in specified areas. The price of clams has gone up fast and more fishermen are us ing boat props to kick clams out of the bottom. This method is destructive to beds of established aquatic vegatation and live oyster beds. N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries > personnel will meet with local clammers and designate areas where clam kicking will not be allowed. 2. Clam gathering has been allowed seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The Commission changed this by allowing clamming from sunrise to sunset only and by closing clamming on Sundays to all methods other than by hand tongs, hand rakes, and by hand with with a Sunday-limit of one bushel per person.
