IMO PROPOSED RECREA TION PISE PROJECT TO GET UNDER WAY SOON: Construction of the recrea tion pier, lone talked about but for* long time delayed it actually to begin within two week*. The building of the pier is a WPA project, sponsored by the Town of Hertford, and consists of ??eh more than the con struction of the pier. The blneprints in the office of the WPA supervisor show that the pier, which win be located at the foot of Grnbb Street, will extend >79 feet oat into the water. The pavilion, open-air-type, will be located at the far end of the long pier. The covered portion, with a walkway all around, shows 90 by 30 feet of floor apace. Projecting out beyond this point the blue print shows a wider pier or wharf where boats may be tied up. There wiD be ha thin< *' this point In appnudmately a seven-loot depth o f water, but another separate diving tower will be constructed in deeper water, farther oat in the river where there will be no danger of divers striking bottom. The blue prints show bath houses, shower rooms and lockers at the shore end of the pier, with two separate units, dividing by a board walk, into quarters for men and women, those for men on one side and for women on the other. Just in front of the bath house and facing the river will be an open-air porch with benches lining 'Jm rail The board walk, ten feet in width, will be railed the whole distance out to the pavilion, with steps decending to the river bottom at intervals. Com pletion of the project will require approximately five mga tlii, according to Pred Chalk, who is in charge of tho WPA activities in Perquimans. OPEN NEW STOKK IN OLD MADRE BUILDING: C.K. Cannon has opened a now grocery store in the old Madre Building located oa Market Street. The building has been completely renovated and makes another very attractive store for Hertford. TAKES NEW POSI TION: BUI White, who has been connected with Joe ft Bill's Pilling Station, has resigned and accepted a position with Atlantic Dis count Corp. in Elisabeth City.
