* F arm Meeting Planned On Monday night. Jan. 9. ?t T:M p.m. there will be a meeting of interest to Per JfcUmans County fanners, during this meeting at the County Office Building, Dr. Fred Mangum, Extension Economist from N.C. State University, will discuss the Food and Agriculture Act of 1977. "This act is known to many ai the New Farm BUI," states Richard H. Bryant, County Extension Chairman. This act has 19 separate titles that directly affect producer prices and income Farm Show Set In Raleigh RALEIGH - It's almost show time, and tickets are bow available for the up coning Southern Farm Show, the Southeast's ma jor agriculture exposition, scheduled for Feb. 2-4 at the North Carolina State Fair Grounds here. Tickets are being distributed by the thousands throughout the two Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, Delaware and Maryland. They can be ob tained, without charge, h all FCX stores and Credit Banks in and South Carolina, as well as through all member stores of the Carolinas Farm and Power Equipment Dealers Association, Inc. January issues of Pro gressive Farmer Magazine and Livestock Breeder Journal have a Southern Farm Show ticket in each copy. Tickets are also being offered through offices of Duke Power, Carolina Power and Light, North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperative*, Inc., and through the Commis sioner's office at the N.C. Department of Agriculture, 121 W. Jones SL in Raleigh. Over 400,000 tickets are ex pected to be circulated by show time. Everyone involved in farming, education, agri culture and related business is invited to view the latest in equipment, supplies and services. Pork Conference Is Scheduled . The 22nd annual North Carolina Pork Producers Conference will be held in Raleigh, Jan. 12-13, at the Royal Villa Motor Inn. The conference it jointly sponsored by North Carolina State University, the N.C. Pork Producers Association and the N.C. Department of Agriculture, i Registration begins at S Am., Thursday, the 12th, Kid the session starts at 9 >'.m. Educational presenta tions will resume at 9 a.m. Friday. Congressman Charles Rose (D-NC) will be among flie speakers. Others will in clude research and exten sion specialists from the SJniversity of Illinois, ? University of Kentucky, and NCSU; North Carolina pork producers and in- - dustry representatives; NCDA veterinarian Dr. Tom Zweigart; Bertin Knoblauch, a farmer from Lowpoint, 111.; Dr. James Keating, M.D., director of gastroenterology at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., and Norman Coats, an economist with Ralston Purina, St Louis. Among the topics to be discussed are the use of crossbred boars, solar energy in swine buildings, the health concerns over the use of nitrates in cured pork and other production, housing and health-related subjects. i Road Is Closed ? RALEIGH - North Carolina Department of ^Transportation (NCDOT) officials have closed a por tion of Ernest White Road <Secondary Road 1208) in ^Perquimans County to ^through traffic. ? Closing of the roadway Just north of Behridere is re quired to allow NCDOT Jwidge maintenance crews jo replace a bridge over a branch of the Perquimans River. Work on the bridge replacement project was scheduled to begin Tuesday, Jan. 3 and is ex pected to be complete by mid-February.
