Miss Sara Winslow, stu dent at UNC Wilmington, was a weekend guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Winslow. xiomemakers hold gathering The Whiteston Home makers club members learned at their meeting Tuesday night in the home of Mrs. Evie Dale that as of Jan. 1, 1975 all new housing units built are required by North Carolina building code to have an automatic smoke detector. Mrs. Paige Underwood, County agent, gave a demonstration of the different types pointing out the good and the bad with slides to illustrate the point. She stressed the im portance of the locale which should be near the sleeping area of the home. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Virginia White. She read from John 15:13 for devotional thoughts on "giving up life for others" and she read a salute to Hertford Firemen by an Edenton resident. After the minutes of the January meeting and roll call several announce ments were made. There will be a lampshade workshop in Washington, N.C. Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. A group will leave the county office at 8 a.m. to attend. Mrs. Lydie Hale will con duct a workshop on quilting at the county office building Feb. 21 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Three sessions are planned for this workshop and other dates will be an nounced at the beginning. Spring Achievement day will be March 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the county office building with Mr. Joe Love, horticulturist from state college, speaking on selec tion and care of house plants. For "show and tell" Mrs. Underwood brought a pocket made of barjello to add color and accent to a skirt. Mrs. Virginia White brought a quilt she was making using the cathedral window pattern. Mrs. Louise Stallings brought crocheted pot holders with an attractive hanger. Mrs. Evie Dale, the hostess, showed an interesting glass plate she received for Christmas. It was black Venetian glass hand painted. She also showed a beautiful music box and crystal bell she received. During the social hour everyone gathered around Mrs. Dale's dining table and enjoyed fresh apple cake made from her own recipe, nuts, cheese goodies, and cold drinks. Bridge clubs meet Miss Mary Sumner was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday afternoon at her home on Church Street. Those p'.aying were Mrs. John Costoa, Mrs. T.L. Jessup, Mrs. J.T. Biggers, Mrs. C.R. Holmes, Mrs. Jack Kanoy, Mrs. G.W. Barbee, Miss Thelma Elliott, and Miss Buby White. Miss Elliott won the high score prise. Mrs. T.B. Sumner enter tained her bridge club Tuesday night at her home ob Front Street. Those play ing were Mrs. Charles Whedbee, Mrs. Eldon Winslow, Mrs. Johnny Broughton, Mr*. C.E. Johnson, Mrs. C.R. Holmes, Mrs. Claude Brinn, Miss Louise Chalk, and Miss Thelma Elliott. Mrs. Winslow was high score winner. Mrs. J.H.
