Library programs are announced By WAYNE HENRITZE Perquimans County Librarian GRANT AWARDED TO LIBRARY The Perquimans County Public Library has received a grant of $15,589 to continue and expand services to the rural isolated in Perquimans County. The Library Services and Construction ACT (LSCA) grant will be used to bring library outreach programs to the homebound, institu tionalized, and geographically isolated citizens of the county. Specific programs will include new book and film pro grams in the county's rest homes and establishment of a series of mini-libraries in rural grocery stores throughout the county. SELF SERVICE MINI-LIBRARIES Arrangements have already been made with a number of rural grocers and community clubs to 'establish paperback mini-libraries across the county by about July 1. These libraries will consist of from 150 to 250 paperback books on a wide variety of topics for all ages and interests. There will be a simple self-service check out system to avoid any burden on the store owners who have been good enough to provide space. Locations already selected include O.A. Chappell's Store in Chappell Hill, Wink's Store in Whiteston, Stallings' Store in Joppa, Towe & Quincey's Store in Chapanoke, Bethel Market in Bethel, the club houses at Holiday Island and Snug Harbor, and the New Hope Post Office. Since several locations are near the county lines and the stores containing the racks serve customers in other coun ties, borrowers from Chowan, Gates, and Pasquotank coun ties will be welcomed. BOOKS AND FILMS TO NURSING HOMES A bi-monthly service to most of the county's rest homes has already begun, consisting primarily of book selection and delivery from the main library and a film program on a two-week cycle. Large print materials will be obtained as needed. HOMEBOUND SERVICE TO CONTINUE The library's homebound service which delivers library materials to shut-ins will continue and plans are for expan sion. If you or someone you know cannot travel to the library to get reading material, call the library and members of the staff will bring materials to you as long as you are ill, incapacitated, or lack transportation to town. In general, an individual is considered homebound if he is unable to do his own grocery shopping or must rely on someone else for transportation. LIBRARY SUMMER PROGRAMS The Perquimans County Library is pleased to announce its summer reading and story programs. The programs will center around a pair of store hours and a summer reading program co-sponsored by Hardee's hamburgers. These programs will begin on Monday, June 19, the week Thank You I shall always be grateful to each and every person who supported me with their vote and personal help in my campaign for Sheriff. READING PROGRAMS For the second consecutive year, Hardee's has agreed to co-sponsor the read program by providing a coupon good for a free hamburger for ever five books read and a Big Twin for every 25 books read. Mention your ap preciation to the managers when you're in the Edenton and Elizabeth City locations.
