Editor's Mailbag Scouting good for everyone TO THE EDITOR: Parents, encourage your boys and girls to join scouting. You owe it to the youths in our changing socie ty; to your community; to your local government, and national government; and above all to God. Scouting is educational and it pays off as time moves on. I believe scouting is one of the best organizations on earth for the youths. Again, scouting is second to none. Scouting has much to offer to the world in many areas. Organisation The Boy Scouts of America was organized by the Act of Congress in 1910 under Pres. Theodore Roosevelt for which he served for two terms, and after which Presi dent William Howard Taft served for two terms. These men were great men and they served their country well. Great men never die but only fade away. This year is the 67th birthday of scouting. The pro gram serv.ed as a springboard in shaping the framework of community; our state; and our nation. Again, it continues to shape the pattern of modern society. Key Word for Scouting S is for scouting, service to all, not a few; C is for character, noble and true; 0 is four outings, adventure and fun; U if for understanding how it is done; T is for teaching our boys and girls how to live together; 1 is for initiative, the desire to give; N is for nabor, to know and enjoy; G is God in the heart for boys and girls. The new Albemarle Sound bridge is * killer. Cox was going over to Plymouth just after sunrise Saturday morning. For a distance of about half a mile near the south end of the million dollar span on the Washington County side, he noticed thousands of purple mar tins littering the bridge floor. Many of the biras were dead and others were fluttering about in the final stages of life. Any number of explanations have been offered, but the most likely one appears to be Hari Kari, mass suicide as it was once practiced in the Orient It appears that the birds fly in huge flocks straight and are instantly crippled by the force of the Mow and reamin on the School menus released The following are the breakfast and lunch menus for Perquimans County Schools, the week of Sept 11-15. Check and double-check. Have your pre-school-age children been inoculated against measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diptheria, whooping cough, and tet anus? More than 20 million children in the U.S. have not been vaccinated against one or more of these basic |childhood diseases. To stop childhood diseases make sure your children are im munized. Though state law requires all children to be immunized before starting school for the first time, the most critical years for in fectious diseases are birth to four. ft C\ Dial 426-5527 Hertford, N.C.
