Police report recent arrests, citations The Hertford Police Department has released the following report of re cent activities: ARRESTS Elwood White of Apt. 7 (Love's Apts ), Market St, Hertford, was arrested by Patrolman J.C. Boyce on Sept. 9 for assault on a female. White was taken before Magistrate B.T. Dail Sr. who released him oo his own recognizance. Trial wu set for Sept 27 in Perquimans District Court. James Clifton Overton of Rt 1, Box 174, Hertford, was arretted by Patrolman R.K. Morris for driving under the influence (2nd offense) and no operator's license. Overton was taken before Magistrate Dail who set bond at $500. Unable to make bond, he was taken to Albemarle District Jail. Trial date is Sept. 27 in Perquimans District Court. A fire1 of suspicious origin that occurred Sept. 9 at approximately 1:11 p.m. resulted in the arrest of Bertha Elizabeth Foster, 21, of 208 King St., Hert ford. Investigating officer Chief Marshall Merritt stated that the police and fire departments both answered the alarm, but when they arrived the fire had been extinguished. Merritt Mid an investiga tion indicated that the fire had apparently been set during a domestic dispute. Ms. Foster was arrested by Patrolman Morris and Boyce on Sept. 11. She was taken before Magistrate Dail who released her on her own recognizance. She was charged with burning property (arson), a felony. A first appearance in Per quimans District Court is set for Sept. 27. CITATIONS Philip Gerard Dignan of P.O. Box 003, Shepherd stown, W.Va., was cited by Patrolman R.L. Harvey for speeding 66 milea per hour in a 55-mph zone on Sept. 6 at 6:45 a.m. Leon Russell Jr. of 47 Carroll St., Patterson, N.J., was cited by Patrolman Morris for speeding 65 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone on Sept. 9 at 5:05 a.m. Csaba Attila Szakolczai of 14305 N.E. 6th Ave.. N. Miami, FU., was cited by Chief Merritt for speeding 66 miles per hour in a 55 mpb rone on Sept 10 at 11:05 a.m. He was taken before Magistrate Dail where he pled guilty and paid a $100 fine and court costs. Sheila Ann Henderson of 2 Morris Drive, Apt. 204, Laurel, Md., was cited by Chief Merritt for speeding 65 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on Sept. 10 at 7:15 a.m. District Court is held here Judge Grafton Beaman presided at the regular ses sion of Perquimans County District Court on Wednes day and heard the follow ing cases: James Danny Nolen, charged with driving under the influence, received a 60-day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $100 and cost, and was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina for a period of 12 months; Linwood Earl Cherry was found guilty of driving with license revoked and was given a 12-months sentence. The court recom mended a work release for the defendant; Toni Parker, charged with uttering paper with forged endorsement, had a first appearance and a pro bable cause hearing was set for Oct. 11; Clyde Ray McCotter was found guilty of non support, and was ordered to pay $170 before Sept. 1, with payment beginning Sept. 8 in the amount of 25 percent of net take-home pay; Clyde R. Spear, charged with driving under the in fluence of intoxicating beverage, received a 60 day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $100 and cost, and was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina for a period of 12 months; Robero Lee Thatch was found guilty of assault on a female and was placed on probation for 120 days (un supervised), given a fine of $125 and cost, was told to remain on good behavior, and not to be engaged in any willful misconduct for a period of three years; Larry Daly Hayes, charged with driving under the influence, received a 60-day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $100 and cost, was ordered to surrender his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court, and not to operate a motor vehicle for 12 months. The defendant was ordered to report to the Albemarle Health Center in Hertford and follow their instructions; John R. Allen was found not guilty of assault; Ricky Smith was taxed with cost of court for con suming beer on a public sidewalk; Kenny Felton waived probable cause hearing after being advised of his rights on charges of break ing and entering and larceny, and safecracking; Wayne Ivey, Carl Butt, and Lee Stallings were found guilty of assault in flicting serious injury on Johnnie Randy Green. Ivey was given a 30-day sentence suspended for three years, a fine of |35 and cost Butt received a 90-day sentence suspended for three years, a fine of $35 and cost. And Stallings was given a 90-day sentence suspended for three years, a fine of 9150 and COft.
