People in the news Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ray Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Crafton Matthews Jr. spent the weekend in Raleigh and attended the State Fair on Saturday. Miss Sara Winslow spent the weekend at Topsail Beach with friends. Guests of Mrs. L.D. Myers on Sunday were Mrs. Lucy Jones, Mrs. Harvey Boyd, Miss Har vette Byrd of Kinston, and Mrs. Bobby Edwards of Ay den. SHOW HOSTESS ? Mrs. Bonnie Swartz, member of the Pasquotank Extension Homemakers Club, will be serv ing visitors food prepared from old North Carolina recipes in the Colonial Tea Room located inside the Museum of the Albemarle during the upcoming Antique Show and Sale. Museum hosts show The Museum of the Albemarle will host an An tique Show and Sale the first weekend in November at the Museum on Hwy. 17 South of Elizabeth City. The show will open Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and, on Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. Admission to the Museum and show is $1.50, or $1 with an advertising card available at area shops. All proceeds at the door will benefit the Museum which serves the 10 county Albemarle area. A colonial "Tea Room" featuring old North Carolina recipes will be run by the Pasquotank Ex tension Homemakers Club in the lobby of the j Museum. A full Bill of Fare j will be served all three ? days by the ladies who will serve wearing costumes of j the period. A full dinner menu will be available Fri ' day evening. The cook book features tried and true favorites of the counties' homemakers. Another feature this year will be the display of an tique cars in the Museum courtyard from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The main gallery, and new additions to the Museum will house antique dealers from the Mid Atlantic States exhibiting all periods of furniture, jewerly, clocks, art, glass, silver, lamps, paintings, porcelains, quilts, nautical, tin, wooden, and iron ware, along with a large selection of coins. A special feature this yeai will be Jewerly Appraisal: by Helen Kuratnick or Saturday from 1-3 p.m. foi $1 each. Admission entitles th< show goer to register foi an antique door prize. It was open house last Friday morning for the parents of the Perquimans Central School's Fourth Grade Gifted and Talented class. Over 90 percent of the children's parents came to learn about the program and view the group in a typical classroom situation. The teacher, Mrs. Brenda Terranova, added that it offered parents the opportunity to ask questions concerning the program. Coming equipped on a Ford charts, the truck carries a booster tank and motor pump that enables it to use any available water supply in fighting fires. MRS. ARCHIE T. LANE WINS HDC COUNTY CAN NING CONTEST: The Perquimans County Home Demonstration Clubs held countywide canning contests during the September meetings. The contests were sponsored by the Kerr Jar Company and awards were made by the company. Each individual club winner was entered in the County contest from which emerged the county winners. Mrs. Archie T. Lane, of the Ballahack Club, won first place; Mrs. A.E. Layden, of the Beech Spring Club, second place, and third place winner was Mrs. Edna Winslow, of the Whiteston Club. County win ners will be sent to Raleigh to enter the State Contest in addition to being awarded a dozen quart jars. WINFALL COMMITTEE CALLS ON TOWN BOARD: A committee of Winfall citizens including Charles Umphlett, Rev. J.D. Cranford, Joel Hollowell, E.U. Morgan and Fred Winslow visited the Hertford Town Board meeting on Monday night seeking approx imate costs to the Town for the lighting of eight street lights in their town. The local Board promised co operation to the committee and stated that Town Engi neer Fenton Britt would be sent to Winfall to make an estimate on the work to be done and would inform the Winfall citizens as to the cost of the project as soon as it could be worked out. / VISIT HSU Mr. and Mrs. John McAllister of Grisholm AFB, Ind. visited Mrs. McAllister's parents.
