Mrs. Thomas W. Proctor Byrum-Proctor wed Miss Lillian June Byrum became the bride of Thomas Wayne Proc tor in a double-ring ceremony Saturday, June 9, in the Edenton Baptist Church. Dr. Robert E. Gray of Newport News, Va. officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Alma Byrum of Edenton. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Andrew Proctor of Hertford. Presenting a program of wedding music were Mrs. Larry Smith, organist; Mr. Joe Ken ney, guitarist; and Jackie Parker, soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a wedding dress designed and made by the groom's sister, Miss Gail Proctor of Virginia Beach, Va. Miss Jean Byrum of Raleigh was her sister's honor attendant. The bridesmaids were Miss Thelma Goodwin of Edenton, Miss Anita Bristow of Bennettsville, S.C., Miss Renee Moses of Pittsboro, cousin of the bride, and Miss Gail Proctor of Virginia Beach. The groom's father, Thomas Proctor was best man. Groomsmen were Bobby Hollowell of Cary, cousin of the groom; Charles Mathews and Stanley Nixon of Hert ford, and Barry Lane of Pittsboro. Mistresses of ceremony were Mrs. Joseph Thorud and Mrs. Thomas Cross, Jr. both of Edenton. Following the ceremony the bride's parents enter tained at a reception at the Chowan Golf and Country Club. The bride is a senior psychology /education ma jor at Meredith College in Raleigh, and is a member of the Kappa Nu Sigma and Psi Chi honor societies. The groom is a minister, having graduated from the Oral Roberts University graduate school of theology. After a wedding trip to Fonta Village, the couple will make their home in Raleigh. COURTESIES The bride was enter tained at a miscellaneous shower on March 22 by Miss Anita Bristow, Miss Lura Anthony and Miss Silda Wall, and other friends at Meredith Col lege. On May 17 relatives and friends of the groom gave the bride a shower at the Bethel Community Building. The bridal couple was honored at a buffet din ner given by Dr. and Mrs. Edward G. Hollowell, was selected as Miss Perquimans at the beauty contest staged last Friday night at the State Theatre, to represent this county in the Potato Festival staged Wednesday at Elisabeth City. The judges of the local contest to select the Perquimans "queen" chose Miss Helen Mae White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. White, as the second choice of the county. Miss Fannie Lee Turner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Turner, of Durante Neck, was selected as number three of the seventeen young ladies who took part in the local contest. JESSE LEE HARRIS WEDS ELIZABETH ANN CLARKE OF WILSON: A wedding of much interest to the people in Hertford took place in Wilson when Miss Elizabeth Ann Garke became the bride of Jesse Lee Harris, of Hertford. CONSTRUCTION OF NEW OFFICE BUILDING STARTED THIS WEEK: Work of constructing a new office building which will house the offices of Dr. C.A. Davenport, was started here this week. The new building will be located opposite the Hertford Baptist Church. Dr. Davenport stated that construc tion of the building will take possibly two months and as soon as it is completed he will move his of fice to the new location. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Umphlett, of Rt. 3, on Wednesday, June 4, 1941, a son. He was christened William Edward. RECEIVES DEGREE FROM ROANOKE COL LEGE: Miss Minnie Lee Winslow was graduated from Roanoke College, Salem, Va., Monday, June 9, 1 with first honors. Miss Winslow was valedictorian of ' her class at Perquimans High School in '37. She returned to her home at Bagley's Swamp Monday to 1 spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Winslow. Clarence Leary, Jr., Mrs. Nancy Wood, and Mr. and Mrs. William B. Gardner at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Bond, May 19. A cook out, June 2 was given for the couple by Mr. and Mrs. William Norvell, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Blades, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shepard, and Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Hassell at the Norvell home. A bridesmaids' lun cheon was given June 8 by Mrs. Joseph Thorud, Mrs. Joe Truslow, Mrs. Benjamin Askew, and Mrs. James Henry at the home of Mrs. Thorud. Following the rehearsal the bridal party and friends were entertained at an after-rehearsal par ty by Mr. and Mrs. Luther F. Amburn, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hollowell, Mr. and Mrs. William C. The display, cover ing everything from sub marines to satelite com munication equipment, even has a quiz game to help you find answers to irour questions about Navy life, work aboard ships in the over 60 career fields, and other opportunities available in the Navy. The public is invited to stop by to view the ex hibit which will be open between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. There will be someone there to answer questions if there are any that the van's displays leave unanswered. The exhibit is sponsored by the local Navy Recruiter, Rick Bleil and the offices of the Naval Recruiting Command. For additional information, call 335-5668. Tax payments due The second installment of estimated federal tax payments on 1979 income is due June 15, 1979, the Internal Revenue Service said. This installment should be paid using declaration voucher number 2 found in the Form 1040-ES package. Taxpayers whose an ticipated income changed during 1979 may have to file an amended declara tion. Space is provided in the estimated tax package to compute an amended estimate, the IRS said. S medium site potatoes boiled in skins "* IVi cups mayonnaise 1 cup sour cream ltt teaspoons Horseradish 1 teaspoon celery seed Vi teaspoon salt 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped 2 medium onions finely chopped Peel potatoes and slice thinly. Com bine all of the above ingredients ex cept parsley and onions. Layer potatoes in a large glass dish and salt lightly. Cover the layer of potatoes with a layer of the mayonaise/sour cream mixture. Sprinkle with onions and chopped parsley. Continue the layers until both potatoes and mayon naise mixture is used. End layering with the mayonnaise mixture and top with parsely. Cover and refrigerate eight hours before serving.
