The event is sponsored annually by the Albemarle Soil and Water Conservation District with the help of vocational agricultural teachers, the North Carolina Forest Service, Union Camp Corporation and the Jones Lumber Company. The N.C. Forest Service sets up the contest and prizes are donated by Union Camp Corporation and the Jones Lumber Company. The F.F.A. team from Camden County won first place and the Northeastern High School F.F.A. team of Pasquotank County won third place. The objecitves of the clinic are to familiarize students with management problems in N.C. woodlands, teach students methods of developing and maintaining commercial woodlands, create an awareness and understanding of the value of a properly managed woodland and to promote greater ap preciation for woodland as a natural resource. The contest consists of four events. Each contestant competes in these events which test their skills in saw timber estimation, pulpwood estimation, timber marking and tree identification. Grammar School cafeteria The Perquimans County School Board has asked the town of Hertford to conduct an electrical service survey at Hertford Grammar School to determine" the cost of powering an air conditioning system for its cafeteria. The request, which the board decided to forward at its November 5th meeting, came after Mary White, president of the Hertford Grammar Parent-Teacher's Association, and Bill Tice, principal at the school, met with the board to discuss the air conditioning of the cafeteria as a possible PTA project. The survey would determine the cost of providing more electricity to the school, and that of any additional wiring that the project might require. The board also reviewed immunization laws, and schools superintendant Pat Harrell reported that all of the records of students at the three elementary schools have been checked for compliance, and the records of high school students are presently being checked. When all student records at both the schools and the health department have been studied, students in kin degarten and first grade, and those students who have transferred into the system from out of state will begiven 30 days to bring incomplete records into compliance with regulations. Parents will be asked to provide information showing that their children have had the required shots. The Perquimans High School addition project is progressing very well, ac cording to a report made to the school board by architect Sam Ashford. Roof work is virtually completed, and the glass contractors are currently installing framing for glass and windows. When the windows and glass are put in, the addition will be largely closed in for work on the interior, Ashfbrd said. It was also announced at the meeting that Dr. Dwight Hester of the Southern Regional School Board's Association will be in the county at the local board's request to conduct a risk management audit. Hester will review the insurance and liability coverage of the school system and make recom mendations to the board as to any changes that might need to be made. Finally, the board: ?Approved roof repairs at the high school; ?Discussed the proposed legislative program of the N.C. School Board TO Association; ?And received copies of * code of conduct for the schools which will be discussed and possibly adopted at the November 11 meeting of the board.
