Extension news Paige Underwood The fourth annual "Christmas Ramble." t apenaored by the Penjuimani County Extension Service will be heU on Taeaday, Dee. 9, tram T to 19 p.m. Hie following homes will be on tour: TV Jim Mills' at 322 Grubb Street which is the second of two homes renovated during 1MB by Jim and Stephanie. This house was ' purchased from Mrs. Lenna Griffin and is for sale. The house features a bay window in the living room and is furnished with antiques and collectibles in a and country decor. The house at 5M Penn sylvania Avenue was built . around 1919 by Major and Loomis Lumber Company and is now owned by Mrs. Ann Young. Tony and Val Short, who have lived in Hertford since February, 1980, found that their furnishings and taste were compatible to the two story wood frame house which features unususl structural ideas. I New homes on the tour are those owned by Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Mizell and Mr. Carlton Boyce. The Perry's home was completed in 1979, and like the Boyce and Skinner homes is constructed of brick. Located | near Winfall, the Perry's returned from Virginia Beach and built at Mrs. Perry's homeplace. This home features spacious rooms, modern conveniences and Htn for the han dicapped since Mr. Perrys' ? year-old Mother lives vith them. Carlton Boyce lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Boyce, natfl he bnUt and moved into his new home in 1 m. This home is located next door to his parents in the Parkville area of the county. Boyce planned and furnished his traditional house and is now enjoying his two bedroom home with modern convenient kitchen. The William Skinner home has grown from a small four room cabin to a seven room brick home. Paneling and most carpentry work has been done by Mr. Skinner over the past sixteen years. Century Gas System provides adequate heating and cooling for the family of seven who enjoys living at Lowe's Beach near Mrs. Skinner's relatives. The Alvin Mizell's log cabin is a bit different but is among the increased number of log homes being built in our country for the energy ef ficiency and insulating properties of solid wood. The Mizell's built their log cabin with the idea of using it for a summer and weekend home as they vacationed from their jobs and home in Newport News. Later, they decided to move permanently to Snug Harbor. Jean and Ahrin, with the help of their son. Randy, built the log home themselves. The sUir rail is even made from a small log right from the k* which is oa* of the many unique ideas in the house. Along with the Christmas Ramble, refreshments and exhibits will be offered at the Perquimans County Office Building as a part of an Open House Tradition started twenty years ago. Each year there have been changes and this year the biggest change will be the purchase of a ticket for the tour of homes. Prices are $2 for adults and H for students. Tickets and maps are available from Extension Homemakers, the Extension Office, or at homes on tour Dec. 9. Tickets entitle you to tour all or as many homes ss you desire.
