Vepco increase won t affect EMC TV >114 million rate in create, which went into effect on Jaa. 14 to Vepco's wholesale customers, should not mean an increase in the ratos Albemarle EMC members pay. according to Ed Brown. Jr., general manager of the electric cooperative. "If Vepco's projections are anywhere close to being correct, the increase in base rates to bring North Anna No. 2 Nuclear Station on line should be more thai offset by the savings in fossil fuel charges reflecting the cheaper cost of nuclear power." said Brown. Some $11.9 million of the wholesale increase applies only to electric cooperative customers like Albemarle EMC. The balance of the in crease will apply to various municipal systems in North Carolina and Virginia. Brown said the increase amounted to M.3 percent to the rate hase paid to Vepen mainly to increased demand charges to the cwnpaay He added, however, that fuel savings of (lit million are expected to result in net savings of $7.7 million or IS percent. "These figures are based solely on Vepco's projections and are not our own," Brown stated. "Naturally, for the projections to bee? it a reality at the very tea* the North Aaaa Unit rat stay ?a line and not iinrim the problems that have piagned the Snrry Nndear Units." he ?ddML Brown said that the cooperative had ao pians la increase rates to members j based on Vepeo's rate filial and that any savings wonM flow through to the members.
