The theme for this year's pageant is "The Stars of Tomorrow". AU Perquimans county youngsters age four through kindergarten are invited to compete in the "Little Miss and Mister Sweetheart" category. . Those children in first and second grade will vie for the title of "Little Miss and Mister Perquimans." Parents are encouraged to pick up applications for their children from Woodard's Pharmacy. Retirement party given Mr. Whit Cartwright of Route 3, Hertford was recently honored at a surprise retirement dinner party. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dail, Sr., also of Route I 3. hosted the party at their home. Cartwright retired on February 9, 1982 from the United States Depart ment of Defense after 27 years of ' government service. Mrs. Moody is a resident of Hert ford and is the wife of Mark Moody. The Outstanding Young Women of America program is designed to honor and encourage exceptional young women between the age* of 21 and M who have distinguished themselves in their homes, their professions and their communities Accomplishments such as these are the result of dedication, service and leadership qualities which deserve to be recognized and remembered. This is the goal of the many leading women's organizations, college alumni associates and public officials who nominate deserving young women to participate in the program. Serving as chairman of the program's advisory board is Mrs. Dexter Otis Arnold, honorary president of the General Federation of Women's dill. Miss Swindell and Mrs. Moody, along with approximately 23.000 fellow Outstanding Young Womea of America from across the United States, will be presented in the prestigious annual awards volume. In addition, they arc now being con sidered for one of the fifty-one state awards to be presented to those women who have made the most noteworthy contributions in their individual states. From these fifty-one state winners, the Ten Outstanding Young Women of America will be chosen. The ten national winners will then be honored at the annual awards luncheon to be held this fall in Washington. D.C. The Basket-Weaving and Macrame Classes are being sponsored by the Senior Center and COA with both classes begining in March. Basket Weaving will be held on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 4 p.m. for 7 weeks and is being taught by Joyce Hobbs. Macrame Class, being taught by Rebecca Spivey, will be held on Monday mornings from 9-12 and will end on May 24. If you are 65 years of age or older, registration for either or both classes is free.
