Pregnancy and childbirth film
festival scheduled F ebruary 9
A film festival on pregnancy and
childbirth is scheduled for Wed
nesday, February ? at 7 P.M. The
public is invited to attend. It will be
held in the AHEC building in
Elisabeth City (across from the
emergency entrance of Albemarle
Hospital). The Albemarle Parenting
and Childbirth Education
Associstion (APCEA) is sponsoring
the presentation and requests a $2
donation per person to cover costs.

The films to be shown are "Nan's
Class" which shows six prepared
births using the Lam are technique;
"First Day* of Life", a graphic and
scientifically accurate presentation
at intrauterine development of a
baby, from conception through birth;
"Genbtle Birth" which shows a
gentle, relaxing birth providing a
reassuring transition for the baby
from the world inside to the new
world outside of the womb; "The
Cesarean Birth Experience" which
portrays several cesarean births and
is designed to prepare parents for the
possibility of a cesarean delivery;
"The Bonding Birth Experience"
which follows a couple through the
emotions of labor, birth, and the
initial stages of family attachment.
Volunteers offer free tax help
Free income tax assistance is
available in the area to individuals
who cannot afford professional tax
help, particularly to low income, and
handicapped taxpayers.
Taxpayers with relatively simple
tax returns can obtain help with
preparing basic tax forms through
the volunteer income Tax Assistance
(VITA) program.
VITA assists taxpayers with the
Form 1040A and the 1040EZ, in
cluding exemptions, deductions, and
special credits for which some
taxpayers may be eligible.
Taxpayer* interested in free tax
help should bring their tax packages,
W-2 forms, interest statements, and
other pertinent tax documents to the
VITA center.
VITA assistance will be offered
February 10 through March 11 at
Perquimans County High School
Vocational Building on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 3:30 P.M. to 7 P.M.
Taxpayers can also receive in
formation on tax benefits.
Virginia Pops concert features
Walter Noona on February 11
Walter Noona and his Va. Pops
Orchestra will return to Sheep
Auditorium in Elizabeth City on
Friday, February 11 at 8 P.M. The
concert is being sponsored by the
Pasquotank -Arts Council with
assistance from the Elizabeth City
Foundation.
The program will include a varied
selection, such as classical selections
and pieces from modern favorites,
such as "Music Man," "My Fair
Lady," "9to 5," and "Annie."
Student tickets are available for $4
and adult tickets can be purchased
for $6.
Tickets are available by mail by
sending a check to Mrs. Marriane
Goldschmidt, 404 Pine Lake Drive,
Elizabeth City.

issued a proclamation this
week announcing February
as Heart Month. With him is

The Perquimans County Parks and
Recreation Department is spon
soring a trip to the Tidewater Dinner
Theatre on Sunday, March 20 to see
the play entitled "Teahouse of The
August Moon". Tentative plans are
to depart from the Perquimans
County Rec. Dept. at 3 P.M., then
travel to the theatre for a buffet at S
P.M. and then sit back and enjoy a
evening of bubbling laughter when
American Occupation forces attempt
to bring democracy to a tiny island in
the East. This is a comedy and was
written by John Patrick and is one of
the few plays to capture every major
award for excellence in the
American theatre. We should return
back to Hertford around 10:30 P.M.
The cost of this evening is $26.50. This
incluilcj transportation by Trailways
bus, dinner and the show. A $10
deposit is due by Friday, February 25
with the remaining $16.50 due by

Freeman wai a native of Hertford
but had lived in New York for the
past few years. He was the son of the
late Junious "Tim" Fere bee and
Mr*. Mary F. Foreman of Hertford.
Freeman was an Army veteran
and a 1966 graduate of the
Perquimans County Union High
School in Winfall.
Besides his mother, he is survived^,
by two daughters, Miss Tess White joA
Hertford and Miss Lynn Freeman 'of
Westbury, N.Y.; a sister, Ms. Edna
R. Freeman of Hertford; and three
brothers, Archell Freeman of
Brooklyn, N.Y.; Anthony Freeman of
Mensola, Long Island, N.Y. and
Samuel Foreman of Hertford.

A native of Changhai, China and" a

she was the daughter of the late

Mattie Macon Norman White Gard
ner and the wife of Arthur Hartt^
Jackson. She was a member of the
Asylum Hill Congregational Church
in Hartford, Conn., the Valley
Homemakers Club and was formerly
very active in the Simsbury Visiting
Nursing Association.
Besides her husband, she is sur
vived by a daughter, Ms. Sarah
Roxane Weidemeyer Jackson of W.
Simsbury, Conn, and a brother,
Lewis Norman White of New York,^

today (Thursday) at 10:30 A.M. in
Cedarwood Cemetery by Rev.
