Area church news - m A real Saturday Night Special at the First Baptist Church will be held March M at 7:90 P.M. sponsored by the ministers, deacons and trustees of the ehurch. The program will feature the Celestial Gospel Chorus of Belvidere, Gyland McClenny. organist; St. Paul AME Zion Choir of Hertford, Gyland McClenny, organist; First Baptist Senior Choir, Barbra Shannon, organist; and First Baptist Young Adult Choir, Larry Felton, organist. The Vint Baptist Church Sunday School is held at 9:45 A.M.; morning worship is at 11 A.M. The Senior Choir will sing under direction of Mary L. Jones, organist. The Psstor's Aide Club will celebrate its anniversary Sunday at 2 P.M. The Leigh Temple AME Zion Church Young Adult Choir will sing. The public is invited to attend. Rev. John H. London, pastor, will preach the subject "The Scarlet Thread," Joshua 2:18-19. Refresh ments will be served. Is the death shroud of Jesus Christ actually shrined in Turin, Italy? Does modern man need physical proof of a supernatural savior? Share the experience of observing a film "The Shroud of Turin" at Center Hill Baptist Church at 7 P.M. Sunday, March 27. Bay Branch AME Zion Church Sunday School begins at 10" A.M. with Mrs. Esther Hunter in charge. Morning worship begins at 11:15 A.M. the young adult choir will render music, Mr. Larry Felton is organist. At 2 P.M. the Rev. Charles Foster of Elisabeth City will preach and the Saint Stephens Baptist Choir will render the music. At 7 P.M. a color March will be given by the Women of the Church and the Belvidere Male Chorus will provide music. On March 29, 30 and 31 a series of services will be held each night at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday the Rev. G.S. Robinson, and congregaton and choir of Piney Grove and Oakhill Churches Ruritans host supper At the regular monthly meeting of the Durants Neck Ruritan Club held March 16, they honored the Durants Neck Volunteer Fire Department with a supper. Following the supper the president of the club, Curtis Eure, presented a plaque to the Fire Chief, Ray Cullipher for the departments out ? tanding community ac complishments and with a $100 donation for their annual fund drive from each of the Ruritan and Ruritanette Clubs. Chief Cullipher thanked the club for their continued support and touched back briefly on the beginning of the fire department. In October, 1980 they were recogniied by the state as an in corporated fire department. The truck was purchased in March, 1981 and in service June, 1981. After completion of the building, they held their first fund raising supper in November, 1981. Since the beginning, they have spent many long and hard hours completing training schools and sessions. They plan to work even harder to raise more funds in order to purchase a tanker to better serve the community. Holly and congregation and choir of Walton's Grove will render the service, Thursday, the Rev. Calvin Whidbee, congregation and choir of Ryan's Grove will provide the service. The public I* invited to attend these services. The flrat Baptist Church will hold a three night Spring Revival on March 30. Rev. Walter A. Davis and Ellis Temple Baptist Church of Winfall will present the service at Mr. and Mrs. George W. Jackson of Hertford were honored with a Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary reception, given by the ladies of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Sunday, March 6, in the fellowship hall of the church.Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have been members of Oak Grove church for many years, serving in many local capacities, as well as on the district level. Nearly two hundred persons attended the reception, attesting to the high regard in which they are held by all.
