Considering the rain, fishing 'ain't bad' &?- - v ?Taking into consideration the rain, me high water, and all the wind, I Mess the fishing out in the river ^Ain't Bad." There have been a few ' white perch taken and the speckled perch have been co-operating pretty well. ?? Some of the Bass fishermen from out of the area that have been here doing a little fishing have done well with some nice fish being taken. I&wn at the "S" bridge things are picking up with some nice catfish, a few white perch, and some brim \ ' every now and then. At some of the other bridges out in the county, some folks have been dipping a few herring, but I do mean just a few. There are a lot of herring being taken in the nets, so it wouldn't be long before they're up in the creeks in good numbers. I still haven't been successful in finding out when the bass tour nament for this area will be held. It's sponsored by Hardee's, so we should have some word soon. It will be a one day tournament and fishing will be limited to the Perquimans River and the Pasquotank River. If anyone out there knows the date of this event, pass it in to us by calling THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY and in turn we will let everyone know. Bob Reed and Russ Chappell went up to the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh last weekend and Bob said it was nice, but there are still no trophies from North Carolina in the Boone & Crockett Record Books. The largest deer from this state was taken in Chowan County and scored in the 160's. Boone 4 Crockett's minimum score to make their records is 170. There were some deer from Perquimans County measured, but they didn't measure up. Maybe in the future, a really big one will turn up. See you next week. GREENVILLE - Two hundred and 72 ECU teacher education students have been assigned practice teaching in N.C. public schools this semester, including two from Perquimans.
