Cells Creecy of Chesapeake. Vs., Emms Lyons of Hartford and Gladys Jones of Hampatead, N.Y. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Metropolitan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Frank Jennings. Burial followed in Roosevelt Memorial Park. FORD CHESAPEAKE. VA. ? John Ford m, the Infant son of Gloris snd Carlton Ford of 1423 Oliver Ave., died Wednesday in a hospitsl. Other survivors include three aisters, Alecis Ford snd Almets Ford, both of Chesspeske, Vs. snd Tracy Kirkman of Atlsnts; maternal grandparents, Hr. snd Mrs. Wallace White of Hertford, and psternsl grandparents, Hr. snd Mrs James Spellmsn of Chesapeake, Vs. Graveside services were con ducted in Calvary Cemetery by Elder John Hsrrell. Riddick Funeral Service was in charge. JONES John Jones, 89, of 211 Grubb Street, a native of Hertford, died Monday in a hospital. He was employed ss a cook. He was a member and trustee of First Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Post 362. Survivors include his wife, Cora Jones; a daughter, Mattie Everett of Hertford; a son, Nathaniel Jones of Norfolk, Vs.; two brothers, Alfred Fere bee and Wilson Ferebee, both of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral was held at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. John H. London. Burial followed in New Roadside Cemetery. Rowsom Funeral Home of Edenton was in charge. EDWARDS MERRY HILL ? Charles Michael Edwards, 3 "A month old son of Michael Ellis and Mrs. Teresa Jackson Edwsrds, died Wednesday, April 13 in Chowan Hospital. Survivors other than his parents are his sister, Miss Jennifer Carol Edwards of the home; maternal grandparents, Talbert and Dorothy Jackson of Route 2, Windsor; paternal grandparents, Ellis and Mary Edwards of Route 2, Windsor; maternal great-grandmother Mrs. Lennie P. Jackson of Winfall; maternal step great-grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Privott of Hertford. Craveside services were con ducted Friday at 2 in Beaver Hill Cemetery by Rev. Coleman Thomas. Williford-Barham Funeral Home of Edenton was in charge. PATTERSON EDENTON ? Mrs. Margaret Spruill Patterson, age 63, died Friday, April 15 in ber home. A native of Chowan County, she has retired from the Tastee-Freese after eighteen years. She was a member of Edenton Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Jimmy Patterson of Edenton and one brother, Stanley Spruill of Winfall and one grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p. m in Williford-Barham Funeral Chapel by Dr. John Allen. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Williford-Barham Funeral Home in charge. JORDAN WINSTON-SALEM - The Rev. Alphonso Jordan, age 83, of the N.C. Baptist Home, died Sunday, April 17. He was the chaplain of the N.C. Legislature for more than 35 years. He was blind and operated a snack bar in the capitol for many years. Survivors include a brother, Issac Jordan of Hertford, three sisters, Mrs. Lillie J. White, of Edenton, Mrs. Elsie J. Lane of Spotsylvania, Va., and Mrs. Susie J. Brady of Hampton, Va. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Raleigh. Burial followed in Montlawn Memorial Park. Information was supplied by Williford-Barham Funeral Home. HURDLE WEEKSVILLEv ? John Willie Hurdle Sr., 47, of Route 4, Elizabeth City, died Wednesday in the Albemarle Hospital. A native of Pasquotank County, he was a construction worker. He was a member of the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Weeksville and the Christian Aid club. He was the son of Percy E. and Mrs. Inez Mae Jones Hurdle and the husband of Mrs. Ht>zel Hurdle, all of the home. Other survivors include six daughters, Ms. Tammie Hurdle, Ms. Trica Hurdle, and Ms. Renee Hurdle of Portsmouth, Va.; Ms. Tinnie Hurdle of Miami. FU? M>. Emily Hurdle and Ma. Vivian "BB" Hurdle of New Jeraey; three aona, John W. Hurdle. Deaald Hurdle and Mark Hurdle of Portamouth, Va.; a siater, Mrs. Minnie McClamy of Bronx, N.Y.; four brother*. Melvln Hurdle and Wilbert Hurdle of Portamouth, Va., Leroy Hurdle of Charlotte, and Robert Lee Hurdle of Jamaica, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. A funeral waa held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Union Chapel Miaaionary Baptist Church, Weekaville by the Rev. J.E. Barnes. Burial followed in the Hurdle Family Cemetery, Belvidere, with Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, in charge of arrangements. BENTON Jack Tatum Benton, 76, of Route 4, Hertford, died Thursday afternoon in Albemarle Hospital. A native of Perquimans County he was the husband of Mrs. Evelyn Lane Benton and a member of the Woodland United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher. He was a retired farmer. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lanier (Lois Faye) White of Route 1, Belvidere; a son, Glenn M. Benton of Route 4, Hert ford; two sisters, Mrs. Eddie HarreQ of Route 4, Hertford and Mrs. Roulac Webb of Hertford; two brothers, Kermit Benton of Route 4, Hetford and Wendell Benton of Rout? 1, Belvidere; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Swindell Funeral Home by Rev. Ray Whitt man and Rev. Joseph Scalf. Burial was in Cedarwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were James R. Pierce, Earl Ambrose, Oral Murff, Walter Ray Benton, Edward Jordan, and Ralph Harrell. BRINN Mary Glasson Brinn died in Rox boro on April 18 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jerry M. Clayton. Mrs. Brinn was born November 8, 1907 on the Trinity College campus, Durham, where her father, Dr. William H. Glasson, was dean of the graduate school. Her mother was Mary Embry Park of Kentucky. Mary Glasson entered Trinity College in 1925, but was graduated from Duke in 1928 since Trinity had then become Duke University. She received the B.S. degree in biology, and later a Master's in botany. She began teaching at the age of 19, and continued until her marriage to Dr. T*P. Brinn of Hertford. Dr. Brinn died in 1969 and Mrs. Brinn later moved back to Durham. Mrs. Brinn was active in civic and aila group* She served on the Perquimans Library board and oe the Perquimans County Board of Education lor many years. She worked with Girl Scouts and arts councils throughout the area, becoming well-known for her work with painting claaaes for shut-ins, senior citiaena, and handicapped youth. She alao worked with the Auxiliary to the North Carolina Medical Aaaociation. Mrs. Brinn waa a member of Duke Memorial Methodist Church. Mrs. Brinn leaves three daughters, Miss Mary Elliott Brinn of Durham, Mrs. Majorie B. Clayton of Roxboro, and Mrs. Anne B. Tucker of Hen derson; seven grandchildren, a brother and two sisters. A memorial service waa held at Ddke Memorial Methodist Church in Durham at 11 a.m. on Wedneaday. Graveside rites and burial will take place in Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford, at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the Rev. Irving Cook officiating. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Jack Brinn. Memorial con tributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Perquimana County Library in lieu of flowers would be appropriate. Swindell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. BR1GGS ZEBULON ? Mrs. Thelma Leonard Brigga, 36, .of Route 2, Zebulon, died Wedneaday, April 13. Survivors include her husband, Russell Briggs; a daughter, Miss Dawn Briggs of the home; six brothers, Richard Leonard, Hulin Leonard, Walter Leonard, Robert Leonard and Charles Leonard, all of Lexington, and Jerry Leonard of Carolina Beach; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Walls and Mrs. J.W. Morphis, both of Lexington, Mrs. Ashton Colson of Hertford and Mrs. James White of Welcome. Information was provided by Swindell Funeral Home. WINSLOW Mrs. Laura Etta Copeland Win slow, 70, of Route 1, Tyner, died Thursday at 12:05 a.m. in the Chowan Hospital. A native of Chowan County she was the wife of Bennie E. Winslow and a member of Hunter's Fork Pen tecostal Holiness Church. Besides her husband, she is sur vived by two daughters, Mrs. Axie Ree Belcher of Chesapeake, Va. and Mrs. Anne Wilson of Eure; a son, L.R. "Duke" Winslow of Route 1, Tyner; ^five step-daughters, Mrs. Rubell Byrum of Route 1, Hertford, Mrs. Erma Baggett, Mrs. Dorothy Russell and Mrs. Mary Bessie Britt, all at Suffolk and Mrs. Nina Dica Edmondaon at Chesapeake; a step son. Beanie E. Wlnslow, Jr. of Chesapeake; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Stafford of Chesapeake and Mrs. L.T. Chappell of Route 1, Tyner; two brothers, Henry T. Copelaod and Merrill E. Copeland, both of Route 1, Tyner; IT grand chiidren and 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Roger Edwards, Hubert Shropshire and Louis Roy Lamb Burial was in the Church Cemetery, with Swindell Funeral Home. Anderson, HI, of Heath, Ohio; one ? brother, Joseph Anderson of Florida; four grandchildren, Edward M. , Anderson, IV, Michael Anderson, and Nathan Anderson, nil of Winston Salem, and Dwayne Proctor of Hertford. Graveside services were con ducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in Westlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Eric Undblade, pastor of A Westly United Methodist Church, officiated.
