Union Tigers win one, lose one IThe Perquimans Union Baseball team wone one and lost one last week at the local field. On Monday, Gates County put up a fight before losing, 17-14. Tim White picked up his third win of the year, coming in relief of Todd Hunter in the 5th. Hunter and Lee Roberts both had two hits, as well as three runs scored apiece. - Gates County is 0-7, and in last 1 ' place. On Wednesday, the local boys fell behind early to a strong Ahoskie team, and never recovered, losing 14 10. Union was plagued by the lack of hitting, getting only four hits, with Rodney Lyons having two of them. i , Tim White was again the pitcher of record, losing his first game of the year. Union is now 6-2 on the year. tied with Chowan Jr. High for first place. Ahoskie is right behind at 5-3. Chowan lost their second game also last week, falling to Roper, 11-10. Perquimans students excel in math Laure White, a senior at Perquimans County High School and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne White of Winfall, was among 106 students who were over-all winners of approximately 6000 students competing in district contests, recently competed in the Com prehensive Division of the State Math Contest at Elizabeth City State University. Miss White won first place, and was offered a scholarship to ECSU if she chose to enroll. Other winners from PCHS at ECSU were Jeanette Jennings, first place in Algebra II and Johnny Trueblood, second place; Evelyn Noyes, fifth place in Algebra I. Perquimans received second place in the Senior Division of the schools represented. This was based on the average score of the students who participated. Students, other than those listed above, who participated at ECSU were: ?Algebra I ? Edward Forbes, Kippy Perkins, Ernie Rennie, An drea Spivey, Pam Tolson, Brock Winslow, and Todd Winslow.
