season will be for Jones and Pamlico
counties, but this is the closest season
that is open to area hunters since our
season was closed in this area.

There was talk of opening the
season down around Stumpy Point
but that's as far as it got. The bear
hunting in this county is gone
forever, so we have to take what we
can get.
Let's not ofrget that on May 27, the
Perquimans Chapter of Ducks
Unlimited will hold its second annual
sponsors banquet. Again this year,
the banquet will be held at Anglers
Cover Restaurant.
All interested readers can get more
information from DU Chairman
Martin Fleetwood or any committee
member.
The fishing in the area remains
good. While the "S" Bridge remains
slow, the fishing on the causway is
pretty good with nice white perch and
catfish taken with occasional bass
and yellowbellies.
Elsewhere in the river the fishing
remains good with some nice white
perch being taken. There are some
really big catfish being taken out
there too.
Down at the beach last week the
fishing off the piers picked up with
good catches of spot and sea mullet
being taken. The finshing in the surf
wasn't as good.
