STALUNGS
*" Mrs. Iris Winslow Stalling*. 82, ol
Route 1, Belvtdere, died Thursday,
August 4. in Albemarle Hospital.
A native of Perquimans County,
she was the daugher of the late
Thomas (Lett) and Martha Jane
Rountree Winslow and the wife of
Joseph Herbert SUllings Jr.
She was a member of the Up River
friends Meeting and the Elizabeth
White Missionary Circle.
Other survivors include her
daughter Miss Gwenn Stallings and
her son. J. Larry Stallings. both of
Route 1, Belvidere; two sisters. Mrs.
Elisha Winslow and Mrs. Robert
Winslow, both of Route 1. Belvidere;
and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted
Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of
Swindell Funeral Home by the Rev.
Rendal Cosand.
Miss Johnnie White played
"Beyond the Sunset."
Pallbearers were Arnold E.
Winslow, Kenny Stallings, Lee Bass,
Jimmy Wiggins, C. F. Stallings,
Allan Ray Stallings, Carlie Ange and
Billy Stallings.
Burial was in Up River Cemetery.
. Swindell Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
ALEXANDER
Earl Alexander, 75, of Route 2, Box
284, died Wednesday, August 3, at his
home.
A funeral was held Sunday, August
7, at 3:30 p.m. at the Porter's Chapel
A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev.
Anthony Hathway. Burial followed in
the church cemetery. Stallings
Funeral Home of Elizabeth City was
in charge of arrangements.
He was a native of Perquimans
County and a Catholic. He retired as
a construction worker with the New
Jersey State Highway Department.
Survivors include three daughters,
Mrs. Yvonne A. Roberts, Jean
Alexander and Deborta A. Carswell;
and a son, Irving Stewart.
Others include four sisters, Mrs.
Sarah Bell, Mrs. Lavinia Cook, Mrs.
Chick Tripp and Mrs. Angie Lilly; a
brother Archie Tripp; seven grand
children; and three great
grandchildren, all of New York.
MEBANE
CHESAPEAKE ? Lillie Belch
Mebane, 76, formerly of 2210 Wild
wood Road, died Friday in a nursing
home. She was a native of Chowan
County.
Mrs. Mebane was a member of
Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Lyn
Mebane Jr. of Jamesville, N.C., and
Robert A. Mebane of Suffolk; two
sisters, Johnetta Pettingill of Hert
ford, and Emma Early of Raleigh;
tftree brothers, Jessie Belch of
Elizabeth City, Cecil Belch of
Ifackies, and Albert Belch of Hert
ford; eight grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren .
Funeral services were conducted
at 2 p.m. Sunday in Williford-Barham
Funeral Home in Edenton by Rev.
Joseph Scalf. Burial followed in
Beaver Hill Cemetery.
RUSSELL
ELIZABETH CITY - Rebecca
McNider Harris Russell, M, or Route
2. a native of Perquimans County and
the widow of Wallace D. Russell, died
Saturday in a nursing home.
She wss a member of Mount
Hermon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters.
Mildred H. Benten and Laura Jansky
of Elizabeth City; two sons, Fleet
wood Harris of Elizabeth City and
Paige Harris of Hertford.
Others include two sisters, Laura
Hollowell of Palm Springs, Calif.,
and Sally Lane of Hertford; 14
grandhildren; and 21 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted
at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Twiford
Memorial Chapel by Rev. Keith
Nanny. Burial followed in New
Hollywood Cemetery.
STALLINGS
NEWLAND ? Mullen StaUings, 90.
of Route 5, Box 154, a lifelong
resident of Pasquotank County and
the husband of the late Mabel Fsoter
StaUings, u.ed Saturday in
Albemarle Hospital. Elizabeth City.
He was a retired Norfolk Naval
Shipyard packer and was an Army
veteran of World War I. He was a
member of Newland United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters,
Mrs. Richard Williams and Mrs.
Bruce Temple, and two sons, Don
StaUings and Richard StaUings, all of
Newland; two sisters, Mary Love
Stallings of EUzabeth City and Louise
Ives of Virginia Beach, Va .
Other survivors include two
brothers, John S. (Jimmy) Stallings
of Hertford and Cecil Stallings of
Elizabeth City; eight grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Memory
Gardens Cemetery by Rev. Jerry
Jackson.
Memorial donations may be made
to the memorial fund of Newlaad
United Methodist Church.
LYONS
Washington Vernon Lyons Sr., M,
of 201 S. Edenton Road St.. died
Tuesday, August 2, In Albemarle
Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted
Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist
Church. Hertford, by Rev. J.H.
London Jr. Burial followed in
Cedarwood Cemetery in Hertford
with Masonic Rites conducted by the
Meridian Lodge 18.
Stallings Memorial Chapel, Hert
ford, was in charge of arrangements.
He was a native of Perquimans
County and a lifelong resident of
Hertford. He was a member of First
Baptist Church and its trustee board.
He was a lifetime member of the
NAACP.
He was also a member of the
Perquimans County Credit Union
Board and the Meridian Lodge 18
Prince Hall Masons for 52 years.
He was the son of the late Jerry and
Mrs. Cora Carter Lyons, and the
husband of Mrs. Lennie Hudson
Lyons of the home.
Besides his wife, he is survived by
a son, Washington V. Lyons Jr. of
Hertford; two sisters, Mrs. Katie
Gramby of Virginia Beach and Mrs.
Elizabeth Skinner of Flushing, N.Y.;
a brother, Ellis Lyons of Hertford.
Others include five stepdaughters,
Mrs. Louetta Mims of Great Neck,
N.Y., Mrs. Eardie Anderson of
Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Daisy Holmes of
Manhattan, N.Y., Mrs. Ethel Span of
Camden, S.C., and Mrs. Gladys
Motley of East Orange, N.J.
Still others are five stepsons,
Oliver Welch of Bronx, N.Y., Lloyd
Welch of Manhattan, N.y., Archie C.
Welch and Gary Welch of Jamaica,
N.Y., and Morris Welch of Great
Neck, N.Y.; two grandchildren; 24
step grandchildren; and 10 step
great-grandchildren.

"Parents should have their
children's immunization records
verified and signed or stamped by a
physician."
"Parents who have moved into
North Carolina from other states
should have their children's records
verified without delay so they will
have them ready to present to the
schools in the fall. Don't wait until
the last minute when scheduling
appointments may be difficult."
The immunization law requires
students to be vaccinated within 30
days after the opening of school.
After that deadline, students who
don't have their shots will not be
allowed to attend school until they
present a current record of im
munization.
Campbell said, "All of the required
shots may be obtained from private
physicians or the Pasquotank
Perquimans-Camden-Chowan
District Health Department."
