the firm of Tlmberlake k Sykes,
Professional Association, Certified
Public Accountants, Eden toe, N. C. A
branch office in Hertford will be
opened by Tlmeriake It Sykes, P.A.
Pitt Tax Service began a number of
years ago to help meet the needs of
the people of Hertford and
Perquimans County and is presently
operated by Minnie Lee Winslow.
A native of Perquimans County,
Winslow graduated from the local
high school, Roanoke College, Salem,
Virginia, and taught school tor two
years before beginnlg her career in
business.
She had held positions in the
Perquimans County Sheriffs Office
and in the Clerk of Court's Office,
where she assited Mr. W. Howard
Pitt with income tax preparation.
In December, 1962, the tax service
was transferred to Pitt Hardware
and Winslow assumed the duties of
bookkeeper and continued to help
with income tax preparation, which
by this time had grown considerably.
As the volume o < income tax
returns has contiguously grown and
with the constant changes la the tax
laws, Winslow saw a need to better
served bar clients. She believes the
association and merger with Tim
berlake k Sykea, P. A. will greatly
benefit the present clientele and
future clients.

EDENTON ? Leonard Francis
Winslow Sr., 75, of Route 3, Box 57S,
Edenton, died suddeniy Friday
morning in Chowan Hospital.
A native of Perquimans County he
was the son of the late Samuel and
;Mrs. Mary Pleasant White Winslow
'and the husband of Mrs. Martha
?Chappell Winslow.
He was retired from Seabrook
Blanching Corp. and was a member
of Woodville Baptist Church and the
Coast Guard Auxiliary.
? Besides his wife, he is survived by
?a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Joyce) Britt
*>f Newport News; a son, Leonard F.
Winslow Jr. of Greenville; three
stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth
Dail and Mrs. Reba Umpheltt, both
of Edenton; and Mrs. Elouise Nelson
of Tampa, Fla.
Other survivors include two
stepsons, Thurman Ray Harrell of
Tampa, Fla. and Earl Harrell; a
brother, Norman Winslow of Suffolk;
one grandchild; 16 step
grandchildren and eight step-great
grandchildren.
Graveside services were held
Sunday at 3 p.m. in Westlawn
Memorial Park, Elizabeth City, with
Rev. John Stanley and Rev. Charles
Harris officiating. Swindell Funeral
Home was in charge of
arrangements.
WHITE
WINDSOR ? Joe Willard White
Sr., 52, or Route 3, Windsor, died
Saturday in Bertie Memorial
Hospital. He was a native of Bertie
County.
He was the owner of Joe Willard
White Construction Co.
Survivors include two sons, Joe W.
White, Jr. and James R. White both
of Windsor; his mother, Martha M.
Williamson of Chesapeake; four
sisters. Vivian White of Windsor,
Mrs. Joseph Manning of Rt. 2,
Hertford and Mrs. Cecil Overton and
Mrs. Marshall Allen, both of
Chesapeake; and five grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at
Filing date approaches for local elections
' The Perquimans County Board of
Elections announced the beginning of
the filing period for six seats up for
{election in the county area.
? There are two seats on the Hertford
Town Council and the Mayor of
Hertford up for election this year;
two seats on the Winfall Town
Council and the Mayor of Winfall.
The filing period for candidates
wishing to run for those seats is from
noon September 16 until noon Oc
tober 7.
Jessie Harris and Billy Winslow
now hold the two seats up for election
on the Hertford Council and William
D. Cox holds the seat of Mayor.
Jesse (Jake) Chesson and Richard
Bryant hold the seats of Town
Councilmen and Lloyd Ray Morgan
the seat of Mayor in Winfall.
The Perquimans County Board of
Elections Office is open from 8:30 to
12:30 Monday, Wednesday and
Friday for all Perquimans County
residents wishing to register to vote.
Residents should notify the election
office if his/her voter registration
status has changed in any of the
following ways: Moved from one
precinct into another; address
changed by the U.S. Postal Service;
or if your name has changed.
The registration books will close
for the upcoming election at 5 o'clock
October 11.

GRUNEWALD
Mrs. Elizabeth "Stick" Fowler
Grunewald, 71, of 608 Pennsylvania
Ave., died suddenly Monday in her
home.
A native of Perquimans County,
she was the widow of John Vaughan
Grunewald. She was a retired nurse
having worked with the late Dr. T. P.
Brinn and was a member of Holy
Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs.
S. E. (Virginia) Bush of Portsmouth
and Mrs. 0. W. (Marie) Britton of
Virginia Beach; and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of
Swindell Funeral Home with Rev.
Ben Wolverton officiating. Burial
was in Cedarwood Cemetery.
