School attendance policy for '83-'84
Pat Harrell, Superintendent of
Perquimans County Schools has
released the following statement
concerning policy and regulations of
attendance for the 1983-84 school
PERQUIMANS COUNTY SHOOLS
| The Perquimans County Board of
. Education recognizes the need for a
policy governing school attendance.
, Students are expected and en
couraged to be in attendance except
for reasons identified in the Public
School Laws of North Carolina and
Section .0400-Compulsory At
tendance Rules of the North Carolina
State Board of Education. The
following reulations shall govern
school attendance in the Perquimans
. Students who are absent more than
Jtwenty (20)days, (ten (10) days in
one half year or semester courses),
from a class, subject, or grade ex
cept for personal illness or disability
with 32-0 win
The Perquimans Union Tigers
opened their 1963 football season on
Wednesday, September 22 with a 32-0
win over Gates Co. Darvin Felton
had two touchdowns and one extra
point with Brian Modlin, Rodney Hill,
and Jervone Coston scoring one
On September 28, the Tigers
remained undefeated and unscored
upon by defeating Maateo by a score
of 36-0. The scoring force was led by
Felton who had four touchdowns and
Jervone Coston scored once. Felton
led nil rushers with 143 yards and
Brian Modlin had 37 yards.
Defensive standouts for both

When a student is absent for per
sonal illness or disability and the
services of a physician are
necessary, a written statement from
the physician must be submitted to
appropriate school officials no later
than the fourth (4) school day after
the student returns to school.
Students shall be allowed to make
up work for excused absences as
defined by the State Board of
Education Regulations. A written
excuse bearing the parents signature
must be submitted to appropriate
school officials by the 3rd day after
the student returns to school if the
student is requesting that the ab
sence be excused.
The only exception to this
regulation is when the services of a
physician are necessary because of
personal illness or disability. Ex
cused absences allow a student to
make up the school work he/she
missed. Students are not permitted to
make up work for unexcused ab

sences count toward the maximum
twenty (20) days a student may miss
a class or subject and be eligible to
pass or fail or be promoted or
It is the students responsibility to
cantact the teacher immediately
when he/she returns to school to
discuss making up any work missed.
Students or parents with special or ?
unique attendance situations may
appeal a principal's decision to a
school-based attendance review
Appropriate record keeping
procedures will be established for
Parents of students who have five
(5) unexcused absences from school
or classes during a semester will be
contacted by appropriate school
Parents will be personally con
tacted and also mailed a letter citing
both excused and unexcused ab
sences when a student has missed ten
(10) days from school or a class
during a semester. This letter will
request parents to meet with school
officials at school to discuss their
Records of all conferences and
correspondence with students and
parents will be maintained by school

Motorists whose license plate expires in Octo
ber (like the one pictured above) should go to their
local license plate agency and purchase a new
sticker. Motorists may also renew their license plate
by mailing the renewal card and the appropriate fee
to the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles in Raleigh. A
one-dollar fee should be included for mail-in vehicle
registration. These fees fund maintenance and
improvements to North Carolina's 76, 000-mile state
Failure to renew an expired license plate sticker
is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $100,
up to 60 days in jail or both.
