as verified by a physician, shall not
receive credit for the class, and/or be
eligible for promotion to the next
grade.
When a student is absent for per
sonal illness or disability and the
services of a physician are
necessary, a written statement from
the physician must be submitted to
appropriate school officials no later
than the fourth (4) school day after
the student returns to school.
Make-up Work
Students shall be allowed to make
up work for excused absences as
defined by the State Board of
Education Regulations. A written
excuse bearing the parents signature
must be submitted to appropriate
school officials by the 3rd day after
the student returns to school if the
student is requesting that the ab
sence be excused.
The only exception to this
regulation is when the services of a
physician are necessary because of
personal illness or disability. Ex
cused absences allow a student to
make up the school work he/she
missed. Students are not permitted to
make up work for unexcused ab
sences.
Both excused and unexcused ab
sences count toward the maximum
twenty (20) days a student may miss
a class or subject and be eligible to
pass or fail or be promoted or
retained.
It is the students responsibility to
cantact the teacher immediately
when he/she returns to school to
discuss making up any work missed.
Appeal
Students or parents with special or ?
unique attendance situations may
appeal a principal's decision to a
school-based attendance review
committee.
Record Keeping
Appropriate record keeping
procedures will be established for
each school.
Parent Notification
Parents of students who have five
(5) unexcused absences from school
or classes during a semester will be
contacted by appropriate school
officials.
Parents will be personally con
tacted and also mailed a letter citing
both excused and unexcused ab
sences when a student has missed ten
(10) days from school or a class
during a semester. This letter will
request parents to meet with school
officials at school to discuss their
child's attendance.
Records of all conferences and
correspondence with students and
parents will be maintained by school
officials.
