Beta Club holds bake sale
The Perquimans County High
School Beta Club offered a
variety of tempting baked
goods on the courthouse lawn
Monday during a teacher's
work day which gave
students a break from
regular school activities.
c Annual mistletoe show slated
; The Sixth Annual Mistletoe Show is
scheduled for Friday, Saturday and
Sunday; November 11th, 12th and
13th at the Knobbs Creek Recreation
Center on Ward Street in Elizabeth
?The show, sponsored by the
'Jfetiiabeth City Junior Woman's Club,
WUi feature 70 booths stocked with
various handmade craft items. In
cluded are cross-stitch, dolls, or
naments, ceramics, kitchen and
wood items, stained glass and
numerous Christmas crafts.
All crafts were made by local
Albemarle area residents. The doors
will be open from 10:00 a.m. until
9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11;
|JP:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Satur
day, November 12; and 1:00 to 5:00
p.m. on Sunday, November 13.
Admission will be $1.50 for adults
and 75 cents for children under 12.
Delicious meals and snacks will be
served daily by the women of the
Ramoth Gilead Church.
A special treat will be the arrival of
Santa Claus. He will appear at the
Mistletoe Show from 3 to 6 p.m. on
Saturday. Free candy will be given to
children in attendance.
Door prizes will be awarded
throughout the three day event. In
addition, there will be a raffle for
handmade three-foot-tall doll.
Proceeds will be used towards
continued community service
projects which the Elizabeth City
Juniors Woman's Club supports.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas 0. Cahppell
of Rt. 2, Hertford, are pleased to
announce the birth of their first child,
a daughter, Raven Alane Chappell,
born Sept. 30, at 7:09 a.m. in

and Mrs. Norwood Gregory of Shiloh,
Maternal great-grandfather is Mr.
Willie Austin of Norfolk, Va.
Paternal grandmother is Mrs.
Madie L. Chappell of Rt. 2, Hertford.
Mrs. Chappell is the former Debbie
Gregoy of Shiloh.

CLUB MEMBERS: Those members
that are participating in the Fetival
of Skills may bring their crafts and
canned goods to the Perquimans
High School Gym after 4:00 on
Friday, October 14. Also, your ar
ticles may be stopped by the Center
anytime next week. We will make
sure they are taken on Friday. Baked
goods must be brought on the 15th.
State Fair Trip: Seats are still
available for the trip on the October
17. Price is $15 for transportation.

Cobbs receives recognition
Nine employees of Ford Motor
Company's Norfolk Assembly plant
celebrated milestone anniversaries
with the company during September.
Robert C. Smyers of the plant
engineering department and George
R. Brown of the quality control
department were honored for 35
years of service and received gold
watches from Plant Manger Josepn
Leonard B. Cobb Jr., 106 E.
Academy St., who is in quality
control, was among the seven em
ployees who received 30-year gold
pins from Mr. Bobnar, and all
received a message of appreciation
from Philip Caldwell, company

Easy apple cobbler is a special
treat for the entire family
Prepare an easy apple dessert (or
your family. Top with whipped
cream and serve in a glass compote
for an attractive winter night treat.
Eaiy Apple Cobbler
5 cups peeled, sliced apples
% cup sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
V4 tsp. cinnnamon
V ? tsp. salt
V ? cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. butter
Vi cup flour
Vi cup sugar
y > tsp. baking powder
V* tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
Combine first seven ingredients
and mix gently. Spoon into lightly
greased 9" square baking pan. Dot
with 1 Tbsp. butter. Set aside. .
Combine remaining ingredients, mix
well and spoon over apple mixture in
nine equal portions. Bake at 375 for
35-40 minutes. Yield six servings.
Use your homemade applesacue to
make the following delicious
dressing for fresh fruit salad. I have
substituted poppy seed for the celery
seed with equally tasty results.
1 cap applesauce
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
4 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. celery seed
Combine all, mix well. Chill
thoroughly. Serve over fresh fruit.
Yield 3 1/3 cups.

The Halloween Pumpkin Carvin'
Contest will be held on Thursday,
October 27 in the lunchroom of
Hertford Grammar School.
Children ages 4-12 may come by
the Perquimans County Parks and
Recreation Department on Monday,
October 24 and pick up a free pum
pkin, courtesy of T R. Harrell and
register for the event.
Then on Thrusday, the carved
pumpkins should be brought to the
school at 5 p.m. While the pumpkins
are being judged, a short program
will be given on Halloween safety.
The event will end with prizes
being given out for the Funniest,
Scariest and the Most Creative

Holiday Island Notice
Since it is anticipated that owners and leasers of
property in Holiday Island Subdivision will be served
County water through Holiday Island Property Owners
Association instead of directly by the Perquimans County
Water System, all persons owning or leasing property in
Holiday Island Subdivision who have applied for connec
tion with the Perquimans County Water System may apply
for a refund of their deposit at the Perquimans County
Water Department in the Perquimans County Courthouse
or by letter at P.O. Box 7, Hertford, N.C. 27944. All
applications for refunds should be submitted to the
Perquimans County Water Department by January 1, 1984.
