LOCAL NEWS Community Calendar i Town Council Meeting ,, Hertford Town Council will meet Monday, October 31, at 7 ~ p.m. at the Town Municipal Building. Purpose of the meeting, Aiidit Report for the year ending June 30, 1983. , Halloween at the Library The Perquimans County Public Library will have Trick or Treat Storytelling on Halloween, Monday, October 31 starting at 5 p.m. and continuing every 30 minutes until 8 p.m. (5, 5:30, 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30 and 8) There will be a different storyteller from the community every half hour. There will also be scary films for older kids ages 13 to 96 ? from 8-9:30 p.m. "Sherlock Holmes," "The Tell-Tale Heart," and "The Boarded Window" (a horror story) will be shown. Holiday Craft Workshop A Holiday Craft Workshop sponsored by the Perquimans , County Extension Service will be held on Thursday, ? November 3, at 7 p.m. at the Perquimans County Office Building. Five or more crafts will be taught in order to give par ticipants an opportunity to make one or more articles. Crafts to be taught include Bead and Lace Wreath by Helen Timms, Macrame Snowflakes by Earline White, Corn Shuck Doll by Emma Burke, Candlewick Ornament by Thelma Rogerson and Strawberry Ornament by Cindy Layden. Additional craft classes may be added. A small fee will be charged for supplies and cost for each craft. Pre-registration is necessary. Call 426-7697 for more information. Police Dept. reports on armed robbery By JANK WILLIAMS On Thursday night, October 13, the Hertford Police Department received a call at 11:02 p.m. con cerning an armed robbery at One Stop Convenience Store located on the corner of Church and Grubb Streets, according to a report from Chief Marshall Merritt. Alicia Ludwig, a clerk in the store, was in the process of leaving the premises after locking the store for the evening. After locking the door, she was confronted by a black male, approximately 5'6" to 5'7" weighing between 145 -155 pounds, carrying what appeared to be a 25 nickel plated automatic pistol. The suspect, wearing dark pants and jacket and what appeared to be a ski mask or stocking cap with red on top, repeated twice "Give me the money." Ludwig who was carrying a bag of trash and a paper bag containing a TV Guide and a PERQUIMANS WEEKLY reportedly handed over the bag and the suspect fled on foot down Front Street. A witness followed the suspect down Front Street and saw him disappear into a yard. Several significant items of evidence have been recovered and are being processed by the SBI Lab in Raleigh. No arrest has been made. Death claims former resident GRAY NORFOLK - William Edwar Gray, 74, a retired patrolman for the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, died Sunday, October 16, in his home at 219MaycoxAve. Tuesday, October II, at 3 p.m. at Smith and William's Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Richard E. Wynne. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach. A native of Hertford, he was the son of Capt. William B. and Maude Goodwin Gray. He had lived in the Tidewater area since 1923 and was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Edna Smith Gray; two daughters, Mary Lane G. Lilly of HobbsviUe and Dr. Margaret E.
