An Open Letter
To The Voters of Hertford
Dear Friends:
I have tried to see each of you personally in the
last three weeks. I have seen many of you, but a few
I have missed for one reason or another due mostly to
your not being at home. So I will take this means to
let you know I am running for re-election for the
OFFICE OF MAYOR OF HERTFORD in the November 8th election.
Your vote and support will be greatly appreciated.
The twelve years that I have been Mayor have been a time
of change and improvements in Hertford.
At the very beginning let me say that this could not have
have happened without the cooperation of many ? The Town
Council; the State and Federal Government; the Perquimans
County Commissioners; and especially you, the PEOPLE OF
HERTFORD. Your support and help has been just great.
The leadership that I have been able to give the town has
come about because I have served as Mayor and Town Manager
and the combination of both has worked well and saved a
considerable amount of money. The office of Mayor is an
elected office elected by the voters of Hertford. As Town
Manager I am an employee of the Town, hired and governed
by the Hertford Town Council. The two jobs are separate
but in the past have worked well together for Hertford.
Over the years Z have made many contacts with State,
Regional, and Federal agencies and people that have enabled
me to do many things that have helped progress in Hertford.
I have served on several State Advisory Boards, having been
appointed by Governor Hunt to serve as Vice Chairman to the
Crime Prevention Advisory Board statewide. lam at present
serving on the league of Municipality Economic and
Industrial Development Advisory Committee statewide; serving
as Chairman for the Albemarle Commission, a ten-county
regional body that is housed in Hertford at the ARPDC
building; and serving as Chairman of the Highway 17
Association in Norfch Carolina. It's sole purpose is to
promote Highway 17. If the northeastern part of North
Carolina is to develop, this highway must be improved.
We have seen much improvement north of Elisabeth City to
the Virginia line. More improvements are nee6#d and should
be forthcoming. These things altogether have and will
benefit the Town of Hertford.
tt re-elected, I will continue to work aa hard as possible
in order to make Hertford a better place to work in and live.
