Area obituaries HOLLOWELL Herman Butler Hollowell, 12, of Route 4, Box 250, Hertford, died at 10:93 p.m. Wednesday. March 7, in Window Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. A native of Perquimans County he was the son of the late Franklin P. and Sallie Haskett Hollowell. Ke was a retired farmer and a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Miley H. White of Rt. 4, Hertford and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Swindell Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Scalf, pastor of Woodville Baptist Church, and Rev. David Goehring, pastor of Cedar Grove Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers were Thomas F. - Hollowell, Jerry Lee Hollowell, Jeff Pierce, Frank Brickhouse, Julian Matthews and James Oscar Pierce. OVKBTON ELIZABETH CITY - Miss DeUa Mae Overton, 67, formerly of Parsonage Street, Elizabeth City, died Saturday afternoon, March 10, in Albemarle Hospital. A native of Perquimans County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Elliott Overton and was a member of Burgess Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother. Lander L. Overton of Elizabeth City and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Swindell Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Griggs and Rev. Johnnie Johnson officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clyde Overton, Trafton Overton, James Overton, Local Briefs ? Area Home Health Services expanding The Home Health Service through ; the district health department is ; expanding services to include ; hospice care. The hospice concept { assists patients and families by providing support and care to the terminally ill so that the best quality of life possible is attained. I The program provides for care to enable the patient to remain at home. In order to make this service possible volunteers are needed from Pasquotank, Perquimans, Camden, Chowan and Currituck Counties. A training program for volunteers will be held one night weekly from March 27 through May 29 at Room 115, John A. Holmes High School in Gdenton and from April 5 through May 31 at Currituck County High School in Barco. All sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at approximately 9:30 p.m. District Quiz Bowl scheduled ' The District 1984 Quiz Bowl will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of Martin I Community College in Williamston. Teams will be from ten high J schools which have competed in contests sponsored by the following library systems: Pettigrew Regional ; Library, Beaufort-Hyde-Martin . Regional Library and Craven Pamlico-Carteret Regional Library. The schools participating in the District Compettion represent high schools in the following counties: Beaufort, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Hyde, Martin, Pamlico, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington Counties. TROUBLEFIELD Charles McCain Troublefield, 68, of Rt. 1, Bo* 65RP, Hertford, died Saturday morning in his home. A native of Harrisburg, he was the husband of Mrs. Evelyn Allran Troublefield. He was a retired agent and statistician with the Railway Express in Washington, D. C. and a Methodist. Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Corinne Haynes of Goldsboro, Mrs. Mildred Knudsen of Oxon Hill, Md., Mrs. Jean Kolda of Baltimore, Md. and Mrs. Barbara Hartley of Annapolis, Md.; two tons, Charles McCain Troublefield Jr. of Frankfort, Del. and William Robert Troublefield of Rt. 1, Hertford; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Foley and Mrs. Carolyn Angley, both of Tampa, Fla; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel o I Swindell Funeral Home with Rev. David Kolda officiating. The body was cremated. Phillip Harrell Jr., son of Odessa and Phillip Harrell Sr. of 316 Dobb St., Hertford, has been awarded a Meritorious Mast while serving with 3rd Force Service Suppport Group on Okinawa. A Meritorious Mast is official recognition from a Marine's commanding officer for superior individual performance. California State University, Sacramento, California, administers the program for EPA and has presented Perkins with a Certificate of Completion. Topics covered in the course include all phases of the operation and maintenance of small wastewater treatment plants. Dr. Kenneth Kerri, Program Director, stated that Perkins is one of many operators in the United States to complete the program. The course is available to all persons interested in the operation of wastewater treatment plants. The Environmental Protection Agency expects over 600 operators throughout the United States to complete the program this year. Community Calendar -? Slide Presentation ' g The Perquimans County Library will be featuring a slide show of "The Soviet Union and its People," Thursday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. The show will be presented by Elizabeth Laney, Director of Pettigrew Regional Library System.
