COMMUNITY B ULLETIN " Community Calendar Quilters to Meet Perquimans Quilters will meet Monday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the County Office Building. I) Open Door to Meet A business meeting for the Open Door will be held Monday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Victor's Church. NAACP to Meet The monthly meeting of the National Association for the Ad vancement of Colored People will meet Monday night, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Pat Harrell, superintendent of Perquimans County Public )/ Schools, will be one of the special guests. There will be a ques tion and answer period about the bond issue. Please come. Rev. J.H. London will be host pastor and president. Craft Festival Set The Annual Spring Craft Festival is being held April 14, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Edenton National Guard Armory next to the airport in Edenton. | The festival, sponsored by the National Guard Ladies Aux iliary, will feature 40 booths, stocked with a large variety of handmade craft items. Crafts people from the surrounding area and Virginia will be participating in this event. Lots of gift ideas for those special occasions will be available. There will also be a concession stand. Admission is free Porkfest Slated ' The Fourth Annual Northeastern North Carolina Porkfest Aill take place on May 5 at the Jaycee Fairgrounds in Elizabeth City. Many pork delectables will be served, such as sliced and chopped Bar-B-Q, spare ribs, ham biscuits, chitterlings, sausage sticks, French fried sweet potatoes, cole slaw, pork stew, Bar-B-Q'd potatoes, hush puppies and beverages of your choice. Music, politicians and news media will abound and a good time is going to be had by all ! I Tickets will be sold on a first come basis. For more informa tion call 338-0884. Green Thumb workers honored were recognized at a reception Wednesday morning, March 14, at the Senior Citizens Center in Hertford. ?Mayor Bill Cox and Senior Center Director Patti White presented Outstanding Older Worker Achievement Awards to Nellie Ifanley who works at Perquimans Union School; Eunice Cale, Senior Center; Howard Reed, Recreation department; William Modlin, Marion Frierson. Willie Brooks and Eforis McKnight, all who work at Hertford Grammar School. Green Thumb workers are 55 or older and work with a sponsor for 20 hours per week. They are paid through state and federal funds. This program is designed to employ older productive workers. The slogan of this program is "55 is the speed limit, not an age limit." C. Agricultural Exteniion Service, will be held on May 14 2 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the Pasquotank County Agricultural Extension Building in Elisabeth City. Counties participating are: Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Perquimans and Pasquotank and Hertford Counties. The purpose of the workshops is to train leaders to teach groups such as adult, 4-H and youth groups, recreational craft leaders, leaders from Extension Homemakers club and others. These leaders will return to their respective counties and teach others what they have learned. The training will also enable participants to develop skills to produce crafts for supplemental income, perpetuate heritage crafts, help people make satisfying use of leisure time, and enhance the life of families and individuals. The deadline to register is April 2 on a first-come first-served basis due to limited space in each class. Registration forms are available from your local county Agricultural Extension Service located in the above counties.
