LAST DAYS OF
THE KINGDOM
(2 Kingi IT: 5-#; 1-15; 17-18)
"The Lord was very angry
with Israel, and removed them
out of His sight: There was none
left biit the tribe of Judah only. (2
Kings 17:18)
The Scripture given for today's
lesson is "chuck full" of lessons.
So many, in fact, that when
applied to today's living, 1
scarcely see how we can do more
than mention them in the space
available. However, there is one
lesson that stands above the
others: it's about destiny.
More aptly stated, it is a lesson
about the destiny of a nation and
it* people. A destiny missed. The
great orator Daniel Webster,
speaking at the memorial
service for both John Adams and
Thomas Jefferson, quoted the
words of John Adams spoken
during the debate over singing
the declaration of independance

I A Word From
Mt. Sinai
"He arose and came to his
father. But when he was yet a
great way off, his father saw
him, and had compassion and
ran and fell on his neck and
kissed him." (Luke 15:20)
Love is paternal, "His father
saw him;" love sees beyond, "He
was yet a great way off; " love is
sympathetic, "He had
compassion;" love is eager to
help, "He ran;" love embrass,
"He fell on his neck;" love
delights to forgive, "He kissed
him."
Our revival meetings begin
August 5th at 7:30 p.m. We want
you to come. We are expecting a
great shower of God's blessings
and want you to be a part of this
exciting time. We love you and
have been praying for you. Come
see us. Thank you.

r?For Your Information
Dear friends,
A family visit to a
shrine of some historic
personage can serve to
introduce your child to
the concept of death.
The person's life story
can be told - how he or
she helped many
people while alive -
how even now, we are
beneficiaries of those
good deeds done years
ago. Your child will
sense how right it is
that the living remem
ber and honor the dead
in special ways.
Respectfully,
SWINDELL

said, "But there is a divinity
which shapes our ends."
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, in her
keynote address to the first
women's rights convention, said,
"Man cannot fulfill his destiny
alone."
John Ruskin bemoaned the
degradation of modern life in
1868, and asked the question,
"Might we not live in nobler
dream than this?" Mr. James G.
Van Buren, writing for the
Standard Publishing Company,
asks a question and makes a
statement about it. He asks,
"Just what determines
destiny?" and replies, "Some
people maintain that life follows
the domino theory of events.
When applied to consequence of
prior conditions.
But the Bible indicates that
man can make choices and that
he is responsible for the choices
he makes. Furthermore, those
choices have a great part in
determining destiny." (Unquote)
Our lesson today deals with
what happens to a nation that
chooses not to walk in God's
calling, but rather scoff at God's
way.
One theologian said that God
has seventeen characteristics.
While we cannot attest to that for
certain, we know that among
God's characteristics are*
patience and long-suffering.
