Dozier's Florist was the sponsor
of the winning team for tee-ball
this summer through the
Perquimans County Recreation
Department. The team coached
by Paul Smith, Jr. and John
Elton Hurdle, maintained their
first place standing throughout
the season losing only one game
to Larry's Drive-Inn. Ace
Hardware also sponsored a tee
ball team this year.

Monday and ended Thursday
night. Highlights of the week

Cross Concert, Honor Club
Tapping, celebration of the 75th
Birthday of 4-H in North
Carolina; Tuesday,
Demonstration finals in which
Leah Harrell? Town N country 4
H Club was State Runner-Up in
Poultry, Cornelus Mack of
Belvidere was State Runner-Up
in Bicyclew, and Damion
Burke? Pools Grove 4-H Club
participated in the Craft
Demonstration.
Perry Chappell of Belvidere
was also recognized (in his
absence) with a certificate and
scholarship from the North
Carolina 4-H Development Fund,
Inc. for outstanding 4-H
Livestock work.
4-H'ers participating in
demonstration were well support
by 4-H leaders, fellow 4-H'ers
and county staff which included
Gail Griffin, Douglas Layden,
Wright Demery, Stan Griffin,
Dwayne Parks, Torrence Mack,

different stages of life present by
the 4-H Performing Arts Troupe,
4-H ? Fashion Review,
Candlelighting Ceremony and a
Fireworks display. Friday
morning was departure time for
all county delegations.
Skating trips set for summer
S penning Wheel*? Ages 5-15
may sign up each week to go
skating in Elizabeth City on
Wednesday mornings. Fee is
12.50 without skates and $2.00
with skates. *
Youth Soccer? Boys and girls
ages 6-15 may sign up to play
soccer this fall. Deadline is
August 24, 5:00 p.m. Fee is $7.00.
There will be an organizational
meeting, Thursday, August 30, at
Winfall Central Elementary at
5:30.
Midget Football? Register
now! Players 9-13 may sign up.
Nine year olds must weigh at
least 100 lbs. Thirteen year olds
must weigh under 100 lbs. All
other players must weigh
between 70-130 lbs. Fee is $10.00
The Perquimans County 14-15
year-old All-Stars were in the
state play-offs by Bladen County
14-9. Perquimans had the lead
throughout the game only to lose
it in the last inning.
Break Dancing lessons for all
ages ? Sign up at the Recreation
Department starting August 2-13.
Lessons are taught Monday and
Wednesday afternoons 4:00-5:15
at the Recreation Department.
Clasaes start August 13 and
continue through Sept. S, for a
total of seven classes. Fee is 17.00
per person. Class site will be
limited so call now to register.
Cheerleading? Ages 9-12 may
register to be cheerleaders at the
Midget Football games. Fee is
$7.00.
Thank 700? I would like to
thank all the Foster Parents for
their time and hospitality during
the state playoffs. Without people
like yourself the tournament
could not have been possible. I
feel all the kids and parents from
Chatham County will remember
last week as one of the best ever.

Martin A; Chobot, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Chobot of
Route 1, Hertford was among
thirty North Carolina rising high
school seniors who have
completed a two-week summer
program in nuclear sciende and
technology conducted in July by
the Department of Nuelear
Engineering at North Carolina
State University.
Dr. Ephraim Stam, NCSU
professor of nuclear engineering,
directed the program, which was
endorsed by the Division of
Science, North Carolina -
Department of Public.
Instruction. Classes taught by
Stam and other nuclear
engineering faculty members
introduced the students to
nuclear science and its
application to technology and
medicine.
Participants became familar
with the facilities of the nuclear
engineering department,
including its PULSTAR research
reactor and computer
laboratories.

White named
DAR Good Citizen
; Alice Mae White, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. "Billy"
White of Hertford, was selected
by the faculty of Perquimans
High School to be the recepient of
the DAR Good Citizens Award.
Each year the Edenton Tea
jparty Chapter of DAR
recognizes a rising high school
senior who has demonstrated
qualities of dependability,
service, leadership and
patriotism.
Alice was presented this award
at the PCHS Awards Day
program.
;? Her activities include Chief
Marshall for 1984 graduation,
Beta Club, Annual Staff and this
year she will be the Sr. Drum
Major for Perquimans High
School Band. She is a member of
the COA Band and Hertford Fifes
and Drums.
She is also a member of
Hertford United Methodist
Church and the UMYF. She was
a Governor's Page in 1983 and
has been named Who's Who in
High School Students.
She will compete with other
good Citizens in the district in the
