Commissioners to meet
Beginning on Monday, April
15, the Perquimans County
Commissioners' regular night
meeting will begin at 8:00 p.m.
instead of 7:00p.m.
Directory delivery set
Preparation for the
forthcoming Albemarle area
telephone directory is nearly
completed. T. F. Daniels,
District Commercial Manager
for Carolina Telephone, said
today that April 1, 1985 is the
last day for requesting changes
in the new directory.
Telephone customers who wish
to change or add directory
listings should call the business
office promptly.
The directory is scheduled for
delivery during June.
Public hearing slated
The Eastern Carolina Health
Systems Agency (ECHSA) will
hold a public hearing in
Elizabeth City to solicit public
comments on certain Certificate
of Need proposals which affect
the respective service area. The
hearing is set for Tuesday, April
2, at Sheep-Harney School at 307
N. Road St. from 7:00 p.m. until
10:00 p.m.
The proposal affected are ?
Regional Medical Services -
construction of an office building
and outpatient sugery facility
with one operating room and one
scope fiberoptic room in
Elizabeth City and Northeastern
Medical Services-construction
of a free-standing multi-specialty
ambulatory surgery center in
Elizabeth City.
Affected persons are invited to
appear before the ECHSA
Project Review Committee and
offer comments either in support
or opposition to the proposals.
Written testimony will also be
acepted by the committee at this
time and made a part of the
official records. Persons desiring
to be officialy scheduled to
present comments should call or
write the ECHSA, 301 S. Evans
St., Suite 304, Greenville,
N. C. (919) 758-1372, by noon of
the day of the hearing.
Bus trip slated
A bus will leave from Elizabeth
City, stopping in Hertford to
pick up those who wish to visit
Historical Tryon Palace in New
Bern. The fee will include a
catered lunch at the New Bern
Holiday Inn, tour tickets
through the Palace and its
gardens, and three homes
located nearby, and the bus
fare. Cost will be $25.00 or less.

Money must be paid by April 11,
with no refund after that date.
The trip is sponsored by the
Coast Guard Officers' Wives
Club of Elizabeth City.
AADA to oppose acquisition
The Albemarle Area
Development Association met
Thursday at the College of The
Albemarle at 6:00 p.m. for their
monthly meeting. A resolution to
oppose U. S Navy acquisition
for more air space over the
Albemarle Sound for restricted
military use was discussed.

is starting a community service
for the elderly person who needs
the help of a teenager, and for
any businessowners. If you need
someone to help to renovate,
paint, landscape, cleaning a
yard, moving furuiture etc.,

non-profit organization and we
are very respectable and hard
working teenagers.

Dr. J. Parker Chesson,
President of the College of The
Albemarle was guest speaker,
relating plans for a cultural arts
center to be constructed after
funds are raised. Dr. Chesson
stated that the College of The
Albemarle was the first
community college in the state
system of 58 institutions and is
now celebrating its 25th
anniversary.

Albemarle Players
to present "Annie"
Robin White was chosen from
65 talented little girls to play the
lead in "Annie" being presented
this week by the Albemarle
Players. Robin, twelve years
old, sings, dances and acts her
way through the musical. Robin
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Warren White (formerly Debbie
Stokely) Her grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Stokely, Sr. of
New Hope, and Mr. and Mrs.
Carlton White of Elizabeth City.
Hertford has two other natives
who will be showing off their
talents in the production. Sarah
Winslow of Belvidere is playing
the role of the orphan "Julie".
Sarah is the daughter of Mrs.
Amy Van Winslow. Mrs. Evely
Upton, who plays the hard
hearted role of "Miss
Hanningan" is also from
Hertford. She's the daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
White of Whiteson. Evelyn's
mother used to teach private
music classes in the Perquimans
School System. Mrs. Upton was a
graduate of Perquimans High
School.
"Annie, " played by Robin
White gets a spanking for
running away from the
orphanage. The harsh blow is
given by "Miss Hanningan"
who is played by Evelyn
Upton.

HANERSLY
BALTIMORE, MD. -Funeral
services for Carolyn Hill
Hanersly will be held at 11:00
a.m. on Friday, March 29, at
Mitchell-Wiedfeld Funeral
Home, 6500 York Road,
Baltimore, Maryland.
Mrs. Hanersly, 82, died at
Union Memorial Hospital on
March 23, after a lengthy illness.
A native of Hertford, she was
the daughter of Lucy Hill Madre
and Joseph Hill.
Mrs. Hanersly was an active
member of Wilson Memorial
United Methodist Church, and in
earlier years, a member of Star
Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband
of 62 years, Walter E. Hanersly
of Meridian Long Green Nursing
Center; a daughter, Patricia H.
Church of Baltimore; two
sisters, Jessie Riddick of
Hobbsville, N.C.; and Margaret
Dawkins of Norfolk, VA.; a
sister-in-law, Mrs. Conrad
McFarland; and three
grandchildren, Katherine
Church, Joyce Ann Batz, and
John H. Church.
OVERTON
HERTFORD? William Martin
Overton, 91, of Route 2, Box 393,
Hertford, died Sunday morning,
March 24, in Health Care Center
of Hertford.
A native of Tyrrell County he
was the husband of Mrs. Jessie
Lilly Overton. He was a retired
farmer and a member of the
Bethlehem Church of Christ.
Besides his wife, survivors
include three daughters, Mrs.
Mary Ruth Stallings of
Portsmouth, VA., Mrs. Marjorie
Bundy of Elizabeth City and Mrs.
Fae Reeves of Camden; six sons,
Jesse W. Overton of Route 2,
Hertford, Julian R. OVerton of
Elkton, MD., Graham L. Overton
of Hertford, Robert W. Overton,
James L. Overton and Donald R.
Overton, all of Elizabeth City; 24
grandchildren; 16 great
grandchildren and 11 great
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the
Swindell Funeral Chapel with the
Rev. Stanley Hare and the Rev.
Ronnie Woolard officiating.
Burial was in the Bethlehem
Church of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby
Overton, Earl Bundy, Jr., Doug
Overton, Crafton Overton, C.W.
Overton, Darryl Overton and
Preston Jackson.

AHOSKIE? Charles Foster
Davenport, 50, of Route 4,
Ahoskie died Sunday, March 17
in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in
Ahoskie.
A native of Chowan County he
was employed with Bea-Dee
Meatland in Ahoskie. He was a
Baptist and an army veteran of
the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include four
daughters, Pam Pendergrass of
Henderson, Barbara Thompson,
Janet Davenport and Susan
Visbal, all of Newport News,
VA.; two sons, Timothy
Davenport and Charlie
Davenport, both of Newport
News; one sister, Mrs. Betty
Burnette of Louisburg; five
brothers, Jimmy Davenport of

Hertford, Stancil Davenport of
Norfolk, Harry Davenport of
Edenton, Beazer Davenport, of
Ahoskie, and Bill Davenport of
Louisburg; and three
grandchildren.
Graveside services were held
Wednesday, March 20, at 2:00
p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery in
Edentdn by the Rev. Donald
Wagner.
