Local News Of Local Interest Dinner set to honor James A support and appreciation dinner will be held on Friday night, April 4, 1966, for the Honor able Representative Vernon G. James. The dinner, which will be held at Angler's Cove Restau rant, is being hosted by friends of ?-1 W -a f 1 James' in Perquimans County. The social hour will begin at 6:30, with dinner following at 7 : 00 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $10.00 each and can be purchased from Bill Cox at the Hertford Munici pal Building. ? W - ? The public is also invited to attend. Arts Council to present dancers Dance enthusiasts in the Eden ton area are extremely excited about the arrival of the North Carolina Dance Theater. The Chowan Arts Council will proudly present this premier dance group on Saturday April 19, 1986 at 8:00 p.m. at the John A. Holmes High School Audito rium. Founded in 1970 by Robert Lindgren, North Carolina Dance Theater has become one of the most sought after and highly ac claimed companies touring America today. In hundreds of cities across the United States and on two overseas tours, they have earned the praises of audi ences, critics, and dance spon sors alike. Traveling for 20-30 weeks each season, the theater has appeared from New England to Florida, throughout North Carolina and the Southeast, as far west as Alaska, and in five European countries. They have performed in small towns and large cities and at major festivals like the American Dance Festival in Dur ham, NC, La Danse a' Aix -en Provence, France, and the Festi val of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. Hospice training session slated Albemarle Home Care s Hos pice program will begin a train ing session for new volunteers on Tuesday April 8, 1986 and run ning for 9 weeks. The Hospice program involves providing care and support in the home for those persons who are in the final stages of an incurable diseases. Along with a team of health pro fessionals, certified Hospice vol unteers help patients in attaining the degree of mental and spiri tual proparation for death that is satisfactory to them. The training sessions will be held on Tuesday evengings from 7:00?9:30 p.m. in Building A Room 216 on the College of The Albemarle Campus. KENNETH HARRIS Kenneth Harris, a sales rep resentative with Electrolux of Elizabeth City, has recently re i i turned from a cruise to Nassau with his wife, Michelle. Harris, who resides in Hertford, won the trip as the result of a sales cam paign in October, during which he sold 50 machines. Harris stated his appreciation to his customers for their pur chases and referrals which made the trip possible. Hertford to update CAM A Land Use Plan HERTFORD, NC? The Town of Hertford is in the process of updating its Coastal Area Man agement Act (CAMA) Land Use Plan which was originally pre pared in 1976 and updated last in 1961. CAMA regulations require affected communities, through land use planning, to establish and enforce policies to guide de velopment of the community. The Land Use Plan must be up dated every five (5) years. The Town has contracted with L.E. Wooten and Company, a Raleigh, NC, engineering, planning and architecture firm, to prepare the 1986 Land Use Plan Update. A work plan has been developed for the update of the Land Use Plan which indicates completion of the planning process in August 1966. A data base has been developed and existing plans, policies and regulations have been reviewed. Citizen participation in the planning process is needed in or der to gain public perception of land development problems, needs and solutions. Dillard, son of Dorothy Hall of Rural Route 1, Tyner, N.C., has completed a Vulcan crewman course under the one station unit training (OSUT) program at the U.S. Army Air Defense School, Fort Bliss, Texas. During their training, students learned all phases of the firing and tracking systems of this air defense system. The Vulcan is a 20mm auto matic six-barrel gun mounted on a self-propelled armored person nel carrier and is designed pri marily for antiaircraft defense. OSUT combines basic training and advanced individual train ing. His grandmother, Hester M. Dillard, resides on Rural Route 1, Edenton, N.C. RODERICK J. MANKE Roderick J. Manke, son of Wil liam H. and Elsie D. Manke of Rural Route 2, Hertford, N.C., has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of staff ser geant. Manke is a parachute rigger at Port Bragg, N.C. with the 82nd Airborne Division. He received an associate de gree in 1985 from Fayetteville State University, N.C. Area obituaries? IDA L. OWENS EDENTON-Mrs. Ida Pearl Lamb Owens, 86, of Edenton, died Thursday morning, March 13, 1986, in Chowan Hospital. A native of Vance County, NC she was the widow of John J. Owens and the daughter of the late Zeb B. and Dora Watkins Lamb. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. T.A. (Flora Mae) Rooker of Henderson; four sons, Nathan J. Owens, Ernest W. Owens, Ernest W. Owens and Johnny E. Owens, all of Edenton and William Thomas Owens of North Au gusta, S.C.; a half-sister, Mrs. Irene Pulley of Graham; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grand children. Graveside services were held Friday, March 14, at 3:00 p.m. in Beaver Hfll Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Epps and the Rev. Douglas Lamb officiating. MORRIS ELIZABETH CITY, NC George Lenwood Morris, 75, of the 1400 block of Marr Ave., a re tired longshoreman, died March 17, 1986, in a hospital. Mr. Morris, a Baptist, was a member of international Long shoremen's Assocciation 970. Survivors include his wife, Alma Davis Morris; a daughter, Phyllis Nyahay of Gales Ferry, Conn.; six sisters, Ella Ivey, Mildred Harris, Dorothy Hayes M and Shirley Bundy, all of Eliza:. beth City, Mamie Ward of Mo yock, NC, and Margaret Vinson of Hertford, NC; a brother, Willie.
