CAUSES OF EYESTRAIN
There is a collection of symptoms that people lump under the
term "eyestrain." This includes tiring of eyes when reading, a tight
or pulling sensation around the brows, and a general feeling of
fatigue centered in the eyes.
Most often eyestrain simply indicates that an individual has
reached his or her threshold of eye use and is ready for a rest.
Your eyes do have limits, and the limits vary from person to per
son. By and large, you must live with this, but there are some com
mon-sense measures you can take to maximize the amount of time
you can read or use your eyes intensely before tiring. Getting
enough sleep is important, as is a good diet. Good lighting can
help, and so can taking a break from time to time.
If you do find that your eyes are getting tired more often and
more easily, however, visit your optometrist. He or she can rule out
muscle imbalance or the need for glasses ? or prescribe them if
necessary.
