Club News 4-Hers to attend annual Congress ? Perquimans County 4-H mem f. bers Jason Harrell, district horti cultural marketing winner and : Damion Burke, district poultry I, winner will be among some 900 Tar Heel teenagers attending the 1988 North Carolina 4-H Congress July 21-25 in Raleigh. The congress will be held at N.C. State University's McKim , mon Center and the State Fairgrounds. Delegates will re side in NCSU dormitories. The congress officially opens Monday night with a flag cere mony, "4-H entertains" talent . show, State 4-H Honor Club tap , ping and dance. Finals in some 40 contests to . pick state winners and a tour of . the Shearon Harris Nuclear . Power Plant are scheduled Tues day. State winners will be hon ored at a banquet Tuesday eve . ning and a carnival and dance are set afterward. Project exploration workshops are scheduled at the Fairgrounds on Wednesday morning and the delegates will have a free af ternoon to tour Raleigh or attend a performance at the Lakeside Dinner Theatre. A donor banquet and the 4-H performing arts re vue are set for Wednesday night. The Thursday program is filled with an assembly, heritage workshops, election and installa tion of new officers, delegate banquet, state 4-H fashion revue and farewell dance. Perquimans County 4-H mem bers, ages 13 to 19, are eligible to attend, according to Juanita T. Bailey, Home Economics Ext. Agent, 4-H. The registration fee for the congress is $85 which includes in surance, meals and lodging. More information can be ob tained by calling or writing to Perquimans County Extension Office. The deadline for applications is July 3, 1986. Harrell to attend 4-H Electric Congress Jason Harrell, member of the Town 'N Country 4-H Club in Per quimans County, will Join some 160 Tar Heel youth July 7-9 at the State 4-H Electric Congress at Chowan College in Murfrees boro. Jason, the son of Tommy and Sherry Harrell will be presenting his 1965 State Winning demon stration "Getting Down to Ba sic" for the Electric Congress Delegates. Juanita T. Bailey, Home Eco nomics Extension Agent, 4-H, said the delegates were selected for achievement in their 4-H elec tric projects. The 4-H Electric Congress is sponsored by Carolina Power and Light Co., Duke Power Co., Nantahala Power and Light Co., North Carolina Power, and the Westinghouse Foundation, in co operation with the N.C. Agricul tural Extension Service. Newly elected officers for 1986-87 are Presi dent, Ben Berry; First Vice President, Henry Bizzell; Second Vice President, Joe Haskett; and Third Vice President, Rick Wilkinson. Board of Director members for a one-year term are: Wesley Nelson, Harry Winslow, Jr, and John Myers. Two year Board of Directoi members are Frank McGoogan, C.C. Walters, and Bill Flippen. Other officers are: Secretary, John Big gers; Assistant Secretary, Paul Ward; Tail Twister, Tommy Harrell; and Lion Tamer, W.O. Elliott. American Legion holds election Reid Lough ter Post 362 of Hert ford held its annual election Mon day night June 17, 1986. The special meeting WGS opened by the commander at 8:45. The preamble was recited by all. A prayer was offered by service officer Phillip Harrell. Who was asked to fill in for Post Chaplain Richard Reid who was unable to attend. Post 362 will be looking at a few new faces for the next year. The election went as follows. Paul Bembery of Bethel Town ship Southern Shores Beach, Per quimans County was elected to post commander. William (Petey) Rogerson of Winfall took first vice. Raymond Jones of Hertford, retained his position as second vice. Leroy Jones of Hertford nailed down the position of Post Adjuant. Wil liam Felton of Hertford was named assistant. Jan Spruill of Route 1, Hertford was elected treasurer. The posi tion of service officer was re tained by incumbent Phillip Har rell of Hertford. The position of Chaplain was retained by Comrade Richard Reid of Winfall. Madison Mayben of Hertford was re-elected to serve as Sgt. of Arms. He has held this position for many years. Robert Thatch of Hertford was named assistant. Public relations will remain in the hands of Roy Hall of Rt. 1, Hertford. Post 362 is looking ahead to a banner year.
