LEARNING LAB Provides opportunities for completing high school, for preparing for college, and for studying in many areas of inter est. Over 100 courses are available for use by the general public, at no charge for any program. Persons enrolling in the Learning Lab are placed in materials according to interests, needs, and ability. The student progresses at his or her own rate, and there is constant supervision and help, whenever needed. The Learning Lab houses four Apple II computers. Over 250 programs are pres ently available for computer assisted in struction. COOPERATIVE ED. Provides course-related work experience for students employed by participating area businesses and public agencies. Em ployers contribute to each student's edu cational development and find that the student, in turn, makes a productive con tribution to the success of the business. GED H.S. DIPLOMA The General Educational Development (GED) program requires no minimum number of hours. Students take the GED tests when they have mastered the rec commended material. Upon successful completion of the tests, students receive a high school diploma equivalency certifi cate from the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges. This diploma is legally equal to a diploma from an ac credited high school, and is recognized almost without exception by industry, agencies of the government, colleges, and other organizations and institutions. At COA, Continuing Education provides educational courses, training courses, and services to meet the needs of the adults in the Albemarle area. Courses presented by this division are available at the college, in public facilities, and in various locations in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties. In general, a course can be presented during the day or at night, when ever 10-15 persons register. Each course varies in length according to its purpose.
