Mrs. Proctor is the former Coleen Parks of Belvidere. Hertford VFW news The monthly meeting of the Hert ford VFW Post 8148 was held at Jim my's Barbecue place, Wednesday evening April 8th. The attendance was very good with Commander D.J. White conducting the meeting. The election of officers was held. Eddie Barber was elected Com mander with Ernest Sutton being re elected Quartermaster. Commander D.J. White again re viewed plans for the steak dinner to be held at the American Legion Hut, Thurday evening, April 23rd at 7:30 p.m. This dinner (dutch) will be for members of VFW Post 8148 and American Legion Post 126. Members who plan to attend this social func tion, please notify your commander, in order that the correct amount of food can be prepared. The VFW District meeting will be held at Sunbury's VFW Post May 3rd. Members, plan to attend this im portant meeting. Frank Brown won the monthly at tendance award. He was present to receive this award. Members who at tend the monthly meeting next month, May 13th, will get a chance for this award. Also at this meeting will be the installation of officers. Veterans are invited to join the Lo cal VFW Post, become active mem bers, and support the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Band selling tickets The band boosters are currently selling chances for a painting which will be raffled off at the 1987 Arts Ex travaganza. The painting was donated to the band boosters by the local artist, Sha ron Chappell. The painting is cur rently on display at the Blanchard I -M 1 ^ V " Building in downtown Hertford. Chances for the painting are .50 cents each. Proceeds raised by ticket sales will benefit the spring and fall band programs in the county. Onley wins quilt A group of ladies from Snug Harbor recently made a quilt and donated it to the Durants Neck Ruritanettes to be raffled off for the Open Door of Perquimans County. The Durants Neck Ruitanettes sold chances for the quilt with all pro ceeds going to the Open Door. The winning ticket was drawn on March 21st. at the Durants Neck Ruritan's supper. AARP news AARP "Workshop" was held at Ramada Inn in Rocky Mount on April 2 for the officers and committee chairman. Ten chapters of North Carolina were invited, chapters of the Western area, are invited next month. The state director of N.C., Mary Edith Rodgers and Mrs. Helen Forsht, Assistant (state director and Mr. Lee from Washington, D.C. were there and they were our speakers. Mrs. Mona Sadler, Vice-President, Catherine Reese, member chair, and Mr. Lloyd Reese Prog. Chair., also attended the workshop. Perquimans chapter will have a covered dish lun cheon on April 27, 12:00. Please bring eyeglasses and hearing aids for the lion's club!
