Community Parks-Upton united UPTON-PARKS Jennnie Lynette Parks and Bobby Cilenn Upton were united in marriage Saturday, April fourth at Up River Friends Meeting, Belvidere, N.C. by , the Donald Crowder. The bride is the daughter of Mr. aq.d Mrs. James E. Parks of , Hobbsville. The bridegroom is the . son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Upton *. Sr. of Elizabeth City. A service of hymns was presented by Mr. Rick Pronto-sololist and or ganist, and Mrs. Florence N aw eli -or ganists, Vevlyn Parks, oboist and Tony Beckler, flutist. , The bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of satin designed with a stand up neck line and Juliet sleeves _ embellished wth Alencon lace and Schiffle embrodiery. The fitted bod ice also trimmed with Alencon lace and seed pearls, illusion front and back yoke trimmed with Schiffi em brodiery and seed pearls. The full ? gathered skirt adorned with Alencon ' lace appliques and pearls extented to ' chapel length enhanced with scal loped lace trim. The gown was made . ; by Mori-Lee. ' -Sarah Rountree of Belvidere served as maid of honor for the bride. Bridesmaids were Vevlyn Parks of Hobbsville, Andrea Winslow of Eliza r bgth City and Michelle Brite of Hert ford. They all wore royal blue gowns and carried a white lace fan trimmed with daisis and blue iris. The groom's father represented him as best man. Groomsmen were Ricky Upton of Elizabeth City. Clay Harris of Kill Devil Hills, Tommie Davis of Elizabeth City and Joe Cop persmith of Camden. Minature Bride was April Parks of Hobbsville and miniature Groom was Heath Chappell of Hobbsville Flower girl was Allison Evans of Elizabeth City and Lee Powell of South Mills was the Ring bearer. Mistresses of ceremonies were Mrs. Helen Winslow of Elizabeth City and Mrs. Mary Upton of South Mills. Door attendents were Denise Winslow of Elizabeth City and Jill Williams of Hobbsville. Program at tendents were Renee Evans of Eliza beth City and Kristie Stallings of Bel videre. Miss Sibyl Winslow of Belvidere was in charge of seeing that everyone signed the marriage certificate. After the vows were exchanged the Bride and Groom signed their mar riage certificate which was later signed by the congregation. Immedi ately following the service a recep tion was held in the fellowship hall. At the end of the reception there was a balloon launch in front of the Meet ing for the couple to start their life together. Larry Stallings led in prayer before everyone released their balloons. Following their honeymoon the new lyweds are living in Belvidere. Copeland-Gerow wed GEROW-COPELAND Miss Lisa Reed Copeland and ^J^mes Joseph Gerow were married April 26, 1967 at 2 p.m. in Hertford Baptist Church, Hertford, N.C. by the ,Rev. William Byrum. ' The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Riddick of 718 Whedbee Dr., Hertford, N.C. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gerow of Cary, N.C. The bride was given in marriage by her step-father, Thomas B. Rid dick, Hertford. She word a satin and lace bridal gown. Venise lace trimmed the Queen Anne neckline, fitted bodice ?hid basque waist. Bridemaids were Peggy Copeland, sister, Grimesland, N.C., LuRee C. Sawyer, sister, Hertford, Alice W. Copeland, sister-in-law, Hertford, N.C., Colleen Gerow, sister of the groom, Cary, N.C., and Connie Sa wyer, Hertford, N.C. David Peeler of Elizabeth City, NC, was the best man. Ushers were Tommy Gerow, brother of the groom, Cary.N.C., Kelly Copeland, brother of the bride, Hertford, Car lyle Sawyer, brother-in-law of bride, Hertford, N.C., Steve Cooper, Maryland, and J.D. Compain, Barco, N.C. Children in the wedding were Cristy Gerow, daughter of groom, and Matt Matthews, cousin of bride. Claudia S. Hurdle, cousin of the bride, was mistress of ceremony. A reception was held at the Hat ford Baptist Church Social Hall. After a wedding trip of unan nounced points the now resides in Hertford. BOBBY GLENN UPTON narreii awarded first place in craft show Emily Harrell, a Perquimans County needleworker, won first place and second place in Armenian Nee dlelace at Woodlawn Mt. Vernon, Va. in the 24th annual Needlework Exhi bition, the oldest and largest needle work exhibition in America. There were around 1,000 pieces from 24 states of amateurs and professional stitchery in the historic Polomac Plantation, George Washington be quest to his foster daughter, Nellie Curtis Lewis. Nellie Lewis was an outstanding needlewoman and her early 19th century* stitchery forms the nucleus of the museum's needle work collection. The judging team composed of Doris Bowman, needle work and lace specialist at the Smith sonian Institution, Deborah Harding, freelance needlework editor and au thor. Ann Henderson, editor of crea tive needle magazine. Tebba, nation ally famous needleworker designer Bonnie Leman, editor of Quilters Newsletter. Mrs. Harrell is also a needle worker, quilter and craftsman in many crafts. She is a Perquimans Home Extension member, cultural art chairman, former Northeastern chairman of cultural art and textiles clothing, a member of Albemarle Craftsmans Guild and a participant in the fair several years ago. She has held shows also, in Coco Village, Fla. and witness the explosion of the Chal lenger at Coco Beach. She has also held shows in Roanoke Rapids, Hert ford, NC, Edenton and Winfall, NC, Swanquarter, Plymouth and partici pated in the 200th celebration in Murfreesboro, N.C. on April 25 and 26. FFA working for Perquimans area One sign of the changing seasons is the completion of projects. And the Future Fanners of America at Per quimans High School are no excep tion. FFA members are finishing their 1986-87 community service pro ject under the Building Our Ameri can Communities (BOAC) program. Students in the Perquimans chap ter have been building cabinets for Agriculture Extension Office, re building the picnic tables and benches at the Park, landscaping the Agriculture Extension Office and the Board of Education building, build ing soccer goals for the Parks & Rec reation Department, and planting flowers at all the schools says FFA Advisor Harrell Thach. Since 1971, more than 17,000 Future Farmers of America chapters across the country have conducted valuable community improvement projects as part of the BOAC program. The pro gram is sponsored by RJR Nabisco, Inc. "Communities throughout the United States are better places to live because of the contributions of FFA members with their BOAC projects," Optimist club to meet The Optimist club meets every Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Per quimans County Recreation and Se nior Center Dept.
